I guess Microsoft could create a default user account at install time. But then I'm sure they'd get a ton of support calls from clueless users complaining that their favorite software doesn't run under Windows.

Let's not throw tantrum every time Vista is mentioned, 'kay?
Vista has admin-level security for running any program that could has a decent possibly of damaging/changing how the system behaves.
Even in Beta, it will (like MacOSX, amazingly enough) prompt the user (even the admin) for the administrator password before executing most installations.
Will this be enough to keep grandma from simply typing in the PW each time it pops up without question? Hell no.
Yes, but the costs are higher than DSL andon-Par with Cable access...at least when compared to the cost of these services in my area (no BPL here yet).
I fail to see the benefit if the costs are going to reimain high. It would only serve to provide access to users in areas not supplied by our current cable/DSL infrastructure.
I was hoping this would lead to low-cost, high-availability internet services. Wi-Fi still seems the best bet to that end though.
> Not exactly sustainable?
RTFA, my friend... something along the lines of "entire world's food supply from one cell..."
Sounds a hell of a lot like, "infinitely sustainable", eh?
unstudied? They're not going to start shipping this stuff tomorrow. It will be studied...and restudied...and verified...and studied again...ad infinatum.
indeterminate origin...? Beef generally comes from cows, that is where I'd assume they'd get the material needed to seed this project.
Scary sounding? "Boo!" Gotcha. (you can come back up from under your desk now)
Expensive? Considering by the time this stuff hits the market it will be mass-produced, infinitely available and reproduceable product, the cost should actually be much lower than meat is now.
And I fail to see what any of this has to do with biodiversity, and it's obviously not natural, but then again, if it was, it would probably not be exactly sustainable.
This is right up there in the "shocking news" department with:
"Microsoft OS contains exploitable security flaws"
Thank's for the update Cap't Obvious.
A reply to your rant online proves your point regarding tech support? Seriously?
You talked to managers, right? Moved up the line? Did you report them to the BBB?
You see, there are a lot of bad companies out there with truely horrid support. Even good companies with horrid support. The opposite is also true. Judging all phone-support based on your experience with *one* ISP is as ridiculous as claiming a negative response to your post on a geek-forum proves your point.
Dead on!
Worked in Tech Support for 5 years. In that 5 years I quickly went from Entry Level to the design team working on the troubleshooting backend used by the techs and testing hardware combinations for inclusion in new systems.
Anyone remotely decent in Tech Support will quickly move *out* of Tech Support unless it is something that person really enjoys doing (which is quite rare, unfortunately).
Did they find asingle computer in the house the terrorists were using? If not, that voids all reasoning behind needing broadend powers regarding encryption.
And even if they did, a simply warrant would cover them. I see no need to start taking away folks rights due to this...
Way to prove the terrorists are winning...start taking away the rights of your citizens.
I mean...if they can just grow it back and all...
I can't wait until my Boss gets this.
If yer gonnaspout on about somebody's work, at least link to it, eh? Now I gotta google.
Funny thatm the guy above who said winrar is better is modded interesting, while the guy who says tar is better is modded a troll.
What are these mods smoking?
Not to mention the recent Music vs. Assault-Rifles in Utah.

But there is no spoon....
Apparently that should read:
I use Google but the more I read about these types of plans I wonder if it is time to stop thinking.
The day public speculation sways my judgement, kill me.
US-people Yeah, that's a hell of a lot easier to say than American.
Excluding Africa, since it is not considered to reside in the same continent.
Thinking of this?
You forgot:
3. ???
4. PROFIT!
When did Bhaal, Mephisto, and Diablo get into the broadband business?

And once upon a time people would read a piece of work and accept it as it is without bitching and whining about every grammatical detail. Arsehole.
I think he meant the claw hammer used by the guy in the above mentioned article to kill his wife.

"Evergreen?" I mean, c'mon... How many times have we seen this headline?

Thank you, Cap't Obvious. None of us would have ever guessed.
Damn careless if you ask me. Most LAN admins keep their Cokes away from server hardware.
