    Vista has admin-level security for running any program that could has a decent possibly of damaging/changing how the system behaves. Even in Beta, it will (like MacOSX, amazingly enough) prompt the user (even the admin) for the administrator password before executing most installations. Will this be enough to keep grandma from simply typing in the PW each time it pops up without question? Hell no.

    I use Google but the more I read about these types of plans I wonder if it is time to start thinking about an alternative.

    Yes, but the costs are higher than DSL andon-Par with Cable access...at least when compared to the cost of these services in my area (no BPL here yet). I fail to see the benefit if the costs are going to reimain high. It would only serve to provide access to users in areas not supplied by our current cable/DSL infrastructure. I was hoping this would lead to low-cost, high-availability internet services. Wi-Fi still seems the best bet to that end though.

Beef generally comes from cows, that is where I'd assume they'd get the material needed to seed this project. Scary sounding? "Boo!" Gotcha. (you can come back up from under your desk now) Expensive? Considering by the time this stuff hits the market it will be mass-produced, infinitely available and reproduceable product, the cost should actually be much lower than meat is now. And I fail to see what any of this has to do with biodiversity, and it's obviously not natural, but then again, if it was, it would probably not be exactly sustainable.

    A reply to your rant online proves your point regarding tech support? Seriously?

    You talked to managers, right? Moved up the line? Did you report them to the BBB?

    You see, there are a lot of bad companies out there with truely horrid support. Even good companies with horrid support. The opposite is also true. Judging all phone-support based on your experience with *one* ISP is as ridiculous as claiming a negative response to your post on a geek-forum proves your point.

    Dead on! Worked in Tech Support for 5 years. In that 5 years I quickly went from Entry Level to the design team working on the troubleshooting backend used by the techs and testing hardware combinations for inclusion in new systems. Anyone remotely decent in Tech Support will quickly move *out* of Tech Support unless it is something that person really enjoys doing (which is quite rare, unfortunately).

    And even if they did, a simply warrant would cover them. I see no need to start taking away folks rights due to this...
