How about adding tests to CPAN that let you know when updates to your modules break other modules that use it. Probably not easy to do, but it is something that would be great to know.

How many hundreds of hours of training do warfighters get on the operation and maintenance of their M16 rifle? If we are talking about the Air Force here, about two. And I don't mean two hundred.

Has that ever actually happened? People keep bringing it out as a scary scenario, but I've yet to hear of an actual example of this being done to somebody.

I've seen it happen. A Staff Sargent at the unit I worked in got sent to Leavenworth for downloading porn at work. The sad thing is that he did it on an Major's computer. Not a great idea.

Of course, we will not really know how accurate that prediction is until in about 20 to 40 million years.

Speaking of accuracy, if this is an event that is happening 40 million years from now, shouldn't the illustration in the article show some sort of rotation of the Milky Way?

  8. La Minita on What is Your Favorite Way to Make Coffee? · · Score: 1

At the office we use Costa Rican La Minita (50% full city / 50% french roast) in the espresso machine. I use 100% full city at home for the drip machine.

If you are looking for a new drip machine, get one that has a thermos carafe and doesn't have a hot plate. If you let coffee sit in the machine on a hot plate you might as well not bother with a second cup.

  9. Re:Make sure you have the talents for sales on What's It Like For a Developer To Go Into Sales? · · Score: 1

Conversly, those who enjoy the technical environment will be very suprised at what life is like under the gun to produce EVERY DAY, ALL THE TIME.

If you have a group of salespersons who will sell functionality that doesn't exist, it probably won't be that big of a surprise.

It would be great if more developers ended up in sales roles, since they usually have a better idea of what impact the customer requests have on the coders who make it happen.
