"...maybe do a followup story later. " Ahh! So when things are reposted several times, they're actually followup stories. Sorry to be so critical, Taco.

  2. WOW! on Podcasting from Space · · Score: 1

I believe this may mark the birth of the first podcast actually worth listening to! What would be sort of hilarious is if I got modded down by angry podcasters. Not THAT hilarious though... :-(

  3. Trustworthy? on E-commerce Sites Edit Customer Reviews · · Score: 2, Insightful

I don't think this should really be much of a surprise. It is impossible to trust the reviews that you read. The only person who benefits from truth is the consumer. Everyone else benefits from praise, false or not. The fact that Amazon had a great many reviews of their books posted by the authors or people related to the authors/publishers should give some insight into whether or not "customer reviews" are a good way of judging a product's merits.

I just hope we don't see those of us supporting Open Source thinking we have won. This feels sort of like a "Peace in Our Time" (http://www.wwnorton.com/college/history/ralph/wor kbook/ralprs36.htm) kind of moment to me.

Don't you just love it when a number as incomprehensible as 45nm is finally put in a graspable framework such as 1/1,333 the width of a human hair? It's like the insight given by the statement that a mole of marshmellows would cover the US 512 miles deep.

  15. Re:Ridiculous! on Hacking the Motorola v265 · · Score: 1

Really, the selling of it isn't ridiculous economically. They can make extra money charging premium prices for something that is really no more valuable than the entry model. It is cheaper to hobble a product and sell it at the "entry-level" cost while selling the unweakened version at more than it really deserves. And indeed, buying it may stick in ones craw, but sometimes one doesn't have much of a choice. In this case, luckily, you do.
