No, they upgraded from a 386 to a 486. I remember because there was all this talk at the time about whether or not Intels upcoming 64bit cpu would be used but Nasa said no way because they needed a chip that would work without a fan.

That's another good thing I forgot to mention. The documentation is exceptional. I spent around $60 on Sam's Linux in 24 hours, Linux Complete, and another book and they aren't as thorough as my trusty SuSE manual.

I am so sick of people saying that SuSE is huge and bloated just because it happens to come with a lot of software. You do NOT have to install all the pacakages! I always install the minimum or default installation and use YaST to connect to SuSE's ftp and search for whatever program I want. Plus you must remember that not all people want to spend all day on a 56k trying to download every package they need, and this doesn''t even take into account the time wasted searching freshmeat, linuxlinks.com, etc, for the programs you want. I'm lucky enough to have a fast net connection (dorm ethernet rules) but I was happy to have all the software when I installed SuSE 6.2 on an old P75 I got my hands on that had no access to the net. Face it, SuSE 0wnz j00.
I don't understand why we can just use streaming mpegs. I was happy when 2600 started broadcasting "Off The Hook" using streaming mp3s (because even though there is a realplayer for Linux the G2 is still in alpha and seg faults if you look at it the wrong way). Mpegs make sense to me.
The Foundation series is awesome but I was younger I really loved Lord of the Rings, another awesome series. I think both would be great. It gives a little of the future and a little of the past (kinda).
I know that the 1024 problem can be worked around by making a small boot partition but that was too much of a pain in the ass for me to bother with. Also, there is no reason to rely on MS even if you use loadlin. That's why I asked if FreeDOS could run loadlin. Plus there's always DR-DOS.
First of all, LILO is not an operating system. Secondly, if you don't want to mess with your MBR and use LILO, loadlin is a great program you can use to load Linux from DOS. I use loadlin because I have that problem of my Linux partition being above the 1024 cylinder so the BIOS can't load the kernel, loadlin solves this problem also. I wonder if FreeDOS could run loadlin?
My window manager of choice is WindowMaker. With WindowMaker you can make hotkeys for whatever you want. I hate using my mouse (of the few things I like about Win9x is that you can ignore your mouse most of the time) and I've made hotkeys for the functions I use the most. I can press alt+tab to switch between windows, alt+ctrl and left or right to switch between workspaces. It rocks.
"Gigantor the space-age robot. His power is in your hands. Gigantor the space-age robot he's at your command."
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the artist the perform the songs really aren't getting ripped off anyway. The percentage that they receive from CD sales is small (most goes to overhead) and most of their money is made by touring and/or merchandising. Record companies are just afraid because they realize that the middle man can be now cut out of the picture. Artists that have realized this fact (Beastie Boys, David Bowie, etc.) have made mp3s available from their site. As a matter of fact, David Bowies record company was furious and had to ask him to stop giving songs away on his site because they were losing money.

Dude, what the hell were you thinking? Have you forgotten about a little company called Apple that uses a lot of ATI cards in their non-intel PCs? My girlfriend has an AMD K6III 450 with an ATI Xpert 128 card and *does work* on her FIC 2013 mobo with it's VIA Apollo MVP3 chipset. Know your stuff before you post Flamebait.
I find it funny that you want to use Enlightenment with KDE. In my experience, Elightenment is the thing that always made GNOME seem so unstable. I switched to WindowMaker (with GNOME) and it has been way more stable than either KDE or GNOME w/ elightenment. X hasn't crashed once since I made the switch.
AMD K6-III dmesg | grep -i bogo Calibrating delay loop... 897.84 BogoMIPS I guess that extra cache doesn't mean extra BogoMIPS
Actually, now that I think about it, it was the Hubble Space telescope that was upgraded from a 386 to a 486

Damnit, I like the marquee tag.
Are you writing a fucking novel?
