  1. afraid on J.J. Abrams To Direct New 'Star Trek' Film · · Score: 1

Im afraid to think what they might do to the characters we loved. I miss the original ST movies, they were fun to watch, the only STNG movie that was good was the one with Kirk. Also I cant imagine how theyre going to make the academy really interesting for very long. trekkies are used to lots of action when it comes to the original characters. I wonder if Nimoy will play his own father? Whod play a young Shatner? Sean William Scott?

  2. shadows in a cave... on Closet Slashdotters: The 'Intellectually Curious' · · Score: 1

that makes the rest of them those that watch every network series that involves "reality tv". Watching people play out their lives for money on tv, do stunts like trained animals to entertain other people sitting on their couch or lazyboy. Socrates was right.

  3. umm on Microsoft Plans Gdrive Competitor · · Score: 1

OK, no! There is no way I would use a MSDrive. I am willing to trust Google to a certain point, but not MS. If I do decide to use Gdrive, Im going to encrypt it with blowfish. While being one of the Apple faithful, I dont see much use for .Mac for me. I have delicious for my bookmarks, not that it matters anyway, I carry my powerbook with me about everywhere I go.

If Hollywood is going to be putting out crap like
    • Ultraviolet
      • (worst movie I have ever seen and probably will ever see) its no wonder that they are losing $. They are following the record industry down the crapper by putting out the same old sh*t, movie goers get tired of the same effects and loopy actors. Give us new faces with talent and give them a good script written by original writers.
  8. AVG on Microsoft Anti-Spyware Removes Norton Anti-Virus · · Score: 2, Insightful

AVG is by far the best Ive found, and its free. At least the version I install on windows machines. Glad I knew enough when I got my Mac I didnt buy that worthless software.

its not just congressmen and senators its also their staff and the lobbyists and reporters in DC that live on blackberries. I worked in the senate last semester and saw it first hand, RIM service in DC is indispensable and may bring both legislative houses to a crawl if shut down.

  11. Puritanical values have no place in the 21st centu on U.S. Government Wants Google Search Records · · Score: 1

Im more concerned about my childs intake of violent TV and movies over their access to nude women. If thats one thing I agree with Europeans about its their nonchalant attitude towards nudity, the body and sex is not a bad thing, its pornography that shows violence towards women or children that is the problem and its highly improbable that a google search will show something like that. Its much easier to explain sex and its consequences and the act to a young person than it is to teach them about violence or why people are so mean to each other.

  13. well on China Overtakes US as Supplier of IT Goods · · Score: 2, Interesting

We still lead the world in developing new technology. And China has some serious growing problems that they wont be able to alleviate for many years. There is a serious inequality in the number of women for men, there are going to be a lot of lonely men in China. The gobi desert is growing rapidly in the western border of the country and the Chinese government is throwing billions to try and stop the spread. The US and our allies still hold the material cards, as China despite its vastness has to import a lot of material just like Japan does to sustain its manufacturing based economy. China is a growing force to be reckoned with but they are not the juggernaut that the US has been since WWII

  24. Very NOT Impressed on Preview of New MSN Hotmail · · Score: 1

with this so called update. Ive had a hotmail account since I was 15, Im now almost 22. I stopped using it everyday almost 2 years ago because of the slow response, horrible junk mail handling, and it is just downright ugly. I am very happy with Gmail even as a beta product, space is great, labels are very useful, and attachment size is a big plus for me. If anyone is interested in a better AJAX product they should check out www.zimbra.com. This little bit of OSS looks to be a great mail client. In the meantime I will continue to trash 99% of the emails I get on hotmail since their junk filter wont work right.

  25. hoping on Microsoft Invents A 'Play-Once Only' DVD · · Score: 1

I do hope they use some kind of biodegradable plastic so those discs dont fill landfills. otherwise people are gonna have a lot of coasters. With the increased availability of broadband and the increased bandwidth it seems that movie downloads are far off. But it seems that we already have a good codec H.264 that can handle any size screen. To me as a consumer I would like to be able to keep a digital copy of a movie on a large media server that can stream to any TV in my house, this would be great for hotels also. Just allow people to burn 2 or 3 copies of a movie that they downloaded from a service and for any other copies they pay $5. That way people can take copies with them on trips, or clear some room off the server for a new movie. The server itself could have expandable drive bays so people could just plug a new HDD when one is running low and a simple catalogue on the tv screen could tell people what movies are on what HDD.
