    How many colocation providers or dedicated server providers charge you for electricity? None that I have ever fucking seen, and I have ran over 10 colo'd boxes in my life and hundreds of dedicateds at some of the most prominent datacenters in the US.

    - Are a bonafied certified porn star

    - Have a 15 inch penis...in a flaccid state

    Blogs really are pointless, their is a reason people are called the "average american" or "average joe schmoe".

    No one wants to read how your day went if you sit inside a cubicle all day filing reports and creaming over the hot ladies in the office without getting some of it.

    Last time I checked the whole point of the Gzip idea was to save bandwidth, does using your extra CPU cycles cost you extra money?

    Fuck no it doesnt - Extra bandwidth costs you money, cpu cycles being used dont.

    I remember when Gmail came out the big celebration over having a gig of email storage. Then their were the talks about the context sensitive ads so I would have to worry about German dungeon porn companies advertising at the top of my gmail inbox if I'm at work. The thing is I only saw the ads for about 2-3 weeks. Havent seen a advertisement at the top of my Gmail inbox since then, and I got Gmail the first week it came out.

    And no you fuckers I'm not using POP3 I'm regular gmail webmail ( http://gmail.google.com/ )

    Miranda was my IM savior. Small, fast, easy to use and have a crap load of plugins. Along with it being Open Source and having everything that your beloved Gaim and Trillian have. Coupled with the fact that its OPEN SOURCE and that it supports all those protocols. Did I mention OPEN SOURCE?

    Not really but a while back when my trusty Geforce 4 Ti 4200 died after it sat in my BSD gaming router for ages ( from the copious amounts of dust that gathered in the stock HSF ) I modded a ThermalTake fan that was supposed to be use for a Barton / Sempron 2600+ and up.

    Not all that hard and it ran the card loads cooler. I zip tied the thing into place on top of the GPU and went to work soldering the thing into place making sure not to touch any of the circuitry and whatnot, took about 10 minutes and was painless and pretty neat experience.

    Lets do some statistics - Their are a total of 2,776 power plants in the United States - Lets compare that with the estimated 1.9 million cars in the United States

    The ratios between the different types of power plants goes as follows : Coal accounts for 43% of the energy in the US , Gas is 19% , Nuclear 14%, Renewable enery 12%, Petroleum 7%, Hydroelectric 3%

    So anyways back on topic your saying that 63% of the US's power supply is made from dirty sources ( coal - gas and petrol ) is equivalent to 1.9 million cars, thats 1748 ( dirty ) power plants.

    People that saying buying a fucking hybrid is a crime because they ASSUME that the energy created comes from dirty power sources ( might be the case in your area, might not ) are complete dumbasses.

    I have an idea that I want to patent but I can't because patents now run in the 8k+ range.

    Basically this idea would generate more horepower in existing internal combustion engines, reduce loss of power due to friction.

    If I could make this idea a reality, we could see hybrids in the 400+ HP range with 70MPG and up!

    Anyone know how to pitch ideas to motor companies?

    Holy fucking shit dude, I was posting a reply with the same exact analogy to a reply a ways up but decided not to because I would be modded a troll.

    Weird we both thought of the same exact thing though

    Back ontopic though, as of right now its gonna take a while to break even on the gas costs, but if and when hybrids go super duper main stream our dependency on oil will go down, which in turn will lead to cheaper hybrids and cheaper gas....

    Buying a hybrid right now is basically funding the whole experimental part of it =]

    People arguing semantics on the whole "where does the energy come from?!?!LOloLo!!" are complete jackasses. Doesnt matter where the energy came from as long as it is providing clean power.

    People fail to realize that energy is neither created nor destroyed, only converted.

    Start a shoutcast server or icecast stream like most people and quit trying to make everything so goddamn hip and trendy.

    What are the advantages of running a legitimate store bought copy of a operating system? Last time I checked and I have been dual booting between Slackware and Windows, Im 20 years old and have never bought Windows. Always have pirated it and always will.

    IMHO their are no "benefits" of a legit Windows copy. I can update just the same as you and everything else. And their are no flaws :/

    Windows, which is really a great OS, gets such a bad rap because it's expected to run with every piece of hardware out there flawlessly.

    Last I checked almost every hardware manufacturer in the past 9+ years has always had Windows as their first priority when it comes to compatibility....Windows is just shit because of security and alot of bloat :/ If hardware isnt running on your box most of the time it's because of conflicting issues with another device or drivers that the hardware company released. Not Windows :/ ( some cases yes, but no one is perfect )

    Anyways, I'm going to get flamed for this post

    especially since power draw from the grid is (I'm guessing) much less at night.

    Power draw would be more at night....people tend to use lights when its dark =]

    Also another thing, when it does become dark....what type of and how big are the batteries that are needed to store the energy created during the day for use at night when its not supplying its own power since theirs no sunlight. I want pictures of such said batteries.

    Imagine if this thing had 1 gig or more of memory. Plug it up and take it to your local university or gaming cafe and have a portable warez dump, even better you could probably get it to run in stealth mode. Imagine having one on the back of a EDU computer, you could have multiple warez dumps and be able to retrieve the files instead of downloading them :d

    Why are people buying PCIe motherboards. Games right now dont even use 1/2 of the banwidth on a AGP 8x slot. It is just another case of them pushing something you do not need on you. If the market would stagnate for a while and let the developers use the 8x bandwidth to its full potential then we could think about PCIe. But as of right now their is no point on getting a PCIe card. But the thing is they are pushing really hard to make PCIe the next video slot solution. So that is why newer video cards are coming out with PCIe first then AGP later. Fuck Nvidia :

    Voice over IP wasnt / isnt supposed to be a end all replacement for traditional POTS. Your comparing apples and oranges basically. Your paying for what you get. Yea true while its working its great to be able to have unlimited long distance and superbly cheap international rates and changable area codes and the like. But when its down of course your going to be angry. People buy cheap bandwidth from providers like Cogent ( yea I know they have gotten better ) knowing that since its cheap its bound to have reliability and some issues every now and then. You get what you pay for. Same with voIP, you get what you pay for. No one places mission critical servers on a Cogent pipe, why should you place your life on a voIP phone. People have higher quality servers on higher quality pipes, you should have your 911 calls reserved for POTS. Have a nice day.
