I used to be able to bring up a list of all recent polls, in case I missed a week or two. Now I can't seem to figure out where to go. Clicking on "Slashdot Poll" above the current poll just reloads the homepage (why?). Searching just brings up articles on
Everything in general seems to load slowly. It's all text based, so if this is the shiny interface's fault I'll take an older version.
OK, fuck you. I just changed formatting and it lost the entire post. Why do you need to reload the page? Do this in Preview, it's a back end flag.
In other news, Nintendo has filed several lawsuits against Inertia, Momentum, and Acceleration. When asked, the only response Nintendo gave was "DURHUR". Word is that the three basic principles will settle out of court using their E-Z Hand Crisco stock dividends, which have skyrocketed since the Wii's release.
In all seriousness, I realize that it is fun to wave a Wiimote around. But when it flies out of your hands, do not blame others for what is your mistake. If a baseball bat flies out of my hands when I swing, I don't sue the manufactuer, I take responsiblity.
A webcast of the conference call can be found at http://investor.google.com/webcast.html in real player and windows media player format. The good part is a few minutes in when they start taking questions.
Most of it is about how each (youtube and google) will contribute to each other. They also talk a bit about financials; why google used stocks instead of cash, what youtube's revenue is, etc. Long webcast, but informative.
"Google video will not go away, ever." - direct quote from the webcast. The only integration the talk about it about google search in youtube but do say they plan to integrate more.
Another large factor is the number of people that will have drives to play Blu-Ray/HDDVD. A new Harddrive type comes out (SATA) and it becomes common because faster disk reading/writing is wanted for data transfer.
But burning a DVD takes long enough (10 minutes for me). Not many people are going to transfer over quickly because few people need the space. And if they do need the space, are they going to go with the standard harddrive or the slower, newer disc? And since few other people have the disc drive, only you can use it. And harddrives are just as portable these days, especially since SATA is hot pluggable.
There are two things I use for "renting" music. Because I view renting as listening before I buy. That way I can keep the ones I love forever and drop the crap that sucks.
The first one is http://www.pandora.com/. It's awesome for finding similar types of music using it's own techinique.
The second is http://www.last.fm/. It requires an install, so not too handy at work, but it bases your preferences off other people. And it shows all the songs you have listened to and how many times.
I use the blend, http://pandorafm.real-ity.com/, so it picks similar songs, but I still get the points in last.fm for listening to it and chat with other people about what they like. Plus at work I don't want to install the last.fm player, so the in-browser playback is nifty. And it's freeeee~
And thus I have infinite amounts of music to listen to and try, and I only have to buy a small(ish) amount that I want to have at all times.
What is the logical alternative? So WB offers free downloads of non-DRM, hosted, lower costing DVDs. 5 hours later it appears free on Pirate Bay. You will have the few who will stop illegally downloading movies, and you will have the people who can now do it better and faster.
It's like the downloadable music alternatives. $1 a song isn't that bad, is it? So our music pirating problem should be solved, right? Yeah... that isn't doing so well.
So what will stop that from happening with DVDs? Stop complaining and proffer a suggestion.
Why Windows Live? Is it only for Windows? Is it referring to the OS line and not the company?
How is this different from MSN's searching capabilities? Different interface, yes, but why not just modify their current engine instead of creating a new one?
And lastly, why make an entirely new search engine when there are (good) alternatives out there? Why not try to better your current products? This applies to both Google and Microsoft, in a way. They have oodles of nifty products, but stop putting out new ones and farking fix your already introduced.
I'm guessing the main reason is because people need expensive graphics cards to play detailed games, whereas all a keyboard needs to be is functioning. And I usually look at my monitor for optical interface. Flashing keyboards wouldn't help much.
I have a black keyboard that I recieved with the computer and a 5-button mouse that was around $20. If either goes, i have several others lying around.
The only useful thing that this keyboard does is look pretty. I already have the choice to put keys where i want them in games. And reprogramming the entire keyboard would make me relearn how to type/play.
Psh, like that'd happen.
A large number of people disagree with a business's practices and vocalize their disapproval?
Oh, the humanity!

5 Ghz is enough speed for everyone.
