  1. Re:Need an enforcement structure, though. on Giant Microwave Turns Plastic Back to Oil · · Score: 1

Considering most rubbish can be recycled, (ie not going in the black 'everything else' bin), people who complain about their rubbish only being collected every 2 weeks should be made to go and work at a rubbish dump for a week. In our household have separate bins for plastic, glass, metal, cardboard, compostables, paper, and everything else (which is actually very little). It then all gets taken away buy the council and recycled. Its very easy...

  6. Treo 650 rocks on Palm to Announce New Treo in September · · Score: 1

I have just traded my Orange UK Treo 600 in for a 650. IMHO the Treo is still the best PDA phone out there. Sure, there are smaller faster, more tricked out, more powerful, more complex phones out there, but none as fully rounded and useable as the Treo.

I used to use a Palm (when it was a 'Pilot'), and carry a phone, but moved to the Treo 600 to eliminate having to carry around 2 devices. I never looked back.

When I was looking for a new phone i looked at other devices as well as the Treo. Most 'phones' are just not 'PDA' enough, they have the usual apps, but are just not powerful enough. I looked at some Symbian devices, especially the M600, but the major problem I had with Symbian is that you need the stylus to do many normal things. Plus the M600 doesn't have a camera. See, the killer feature for the Treo is that you can do everything without getting the stylus out. That and only that clinched it for me.

Pocket PC, Windows Mobile, Windows CE (whatever its called this week) is so completely unsuitable for a phone. Its sluggish, confusing and over complicated, I know, I have to write software on the bloody things! I have written for Palm in the past, and found it an absolute joy to develop for. Some people keep bringing up the multithreaded issue. When I was writing Palm apps, I never thought 'I wish i had threads'. It just never happened.

I will keep on buying Palm OS Treos, so long as they keep making them. If MS kills off Palm OS, it will be a sad sad day indeed, and we will all loose out.

  7. DNF and graphics on Duke Nukem Forever Update · · Score: 1

DNF shouldn't need fancy graphics. Ok so make them better than DN3D, but that wouldn't be hard. My friends and I were still playing DN3D together, long after Quake (GLQuake!) and Quake II were out, simply because it was sooo good. All DNF needs is Duke (of course), his attitude, a good interactive environment, some big guns, and lots of aliens to kill. We used to play this level that was set in a supermarket; having an RPG firefight in the milk section was just pure class, milk everywhere..

I think the problem in the USA is that in order to be on TV it has to be able to stop every 5 mins for advert breaks. Hence you end up with your funny sports. Whats even funnier is that, although you are alone in the world, you still think you're right.

I currently code in php (and use MySQL). I like some of it (a very rich language), but dislike other bits (a very rich language). Its like a programming language designed by a programmer, but that doesn't necessarily make it any good. Can someone give me a list of alternatives? Someone mentioned Ruby, I will look into that one.
