    With newer reactor designs, it could be even better. We still need to come up with a good solution for the waste, though. Nobody has any idea how much it will cost to deal with as we're currently just putting it aside.

    If that doesn't work, call up Comcast and get them to upgrade your firmware. We had to bitch to the Comcast higher ups to get decent support on ours, and after about 6 weeks of being in lots of contact with the business tech team, they traced it down to a firmware bug and made SMC fix the problem.

    The busses stop every block or two at worst. Nearly everything you'd want to go to is on the El and frequently it's much faster than traveling via car. Having to park a car on the city streets, however, is the total opposite of freedom. Between street cleaning tickets, break-ins, stray balls from kids, bad drivers taking out your mirrors, and other headaches on top of what you'd have in suburban car ownership, it takes a hell of a lot of time and money to deal with.

    Moody Bible Institute is in one of the wealthiest areas of Chicago, known as the Gold Coast. There are some beggars in the area due to its proximity to the tourist areas and the cheap housing at the YMCA, but other than that it's a pretty safe area. I could see how it might be considered bad compared to Evanston however, which is quite wealthy and sterile. In both areas the biggest risk to your health at night is drunk middle class people.

    You misunderstood, I'm not proposing that we do it as I'd rather live a happy and free life instead of a life free of minor crimes. I'm stating that the technology already exists to do it now but we don't have the laws to force it. Since it's not implemented now there is some hope that it won't be implemented in self driving cars.

    Modern cars could easily be programmed to never exceed 80, the current top speed limit in the USA, but there are no regulations forcing this and no cars do this. We could in theory get rid of a lot of invasive search laws if there were no DUI excuses. I don't own a car or drive, so it makes it very difficult for me to be unreasonably searched as I'm not capable of endangering those around me with 40,000kg*m/s of momentum.

    The statistics suggest that even if they do the work and graduate, that they are not capable of doing a job that will allow them to pay back the loans, but the college doesn't fail because the government is a signee on the loans.

    Based on your very loose definition, a painter would be considered an engineer.

    Most of those tasks don't even count as engineering. Even designing your circuit may not be considered engineering if it was simply a bunch of parts connected to meet some desired functionality. It would be considered engineering if you designed it to meet a set of specifications, such as perform with a given failure rate under an expected set of environmental parameters.

    I'm a software developer for a living, but most of my coding doesn't even come close to being considered engineering. I write code to specifications based on experience only. I don't use math to determine how the code should be written, and there are not statistics involved in the QA process.

    Event as an Adobe hater, I must disagree with you.

    There is absolutely nothing that comes close to Photoshop in terms of functionality or usability. GIMP is about as good as Photoshop from 15 years ago. If Photoshop saves them 2 or 3 hours over the course of an entire year, it's worth the cost.

    Tumors tend to grow and adapt. We can probably breed them to feed off of HFCS in a bioreactor type vat and harvest a meat like substance from them.

    They are cool and all, but we're better off spending our money on cheaper projects with a higher military payoff.

    This country tends to spend its military R&D on the most useless and expensive projects with low payoff. We've spent billions on the missile defense shield which doesn't protect us from any modern threat. We've also spend tens of billions on the Osprey, which is pork at its finest.

    A manned stealth fighter doesn't really help us much these days. We're far better off investing in drones which even if they're not stealth can win because we can just send a bunch more of them.

    While I agree with you, I do know people who have cycled across an entire state and have not had any problems with law enforcement. They did not use an interstate highway, but not everything state owned is available to everyone at all times.

    As an example, is it a grave restriction on freedom if I can't go hang out in the president's bathroom when I want to? Is it reasonable for the government to refuse me the ability to walk through a restroom of an opposite gender as a part of my freedom to travel?

    it's more than just corn oil or HFCS. The following typically have large amounts of corn based ingredients:
    Baking powder, Caramel, Cellulose, Corn Flour, Diglycerides, Ethyl acetate, Fructose, Fumaric Acid, Gluten, Invert Sugar, Sorbic Acid, Sorbitol, Sucrose, Xanthan Gum, Xylitol, Zein

    Nearly everything you eat in the US will have some large percentage of its ingredients derived from corn products, due to these subsidies.

    Whether or not this is a problem is up for debate.

    Your cable and telephone companies have guaranteed monopolies in most municipalities. They can set prices wherever they want because it is actually illegal to compete with them.

    Make it illegal to give a company a local monopoly and you will solve some of this problem.
