OSNEWS is just a bunch of pedophiles making comments less informed than those on Slashdot. Not only that, OSNEWS deletes "offensive" posts with some regularity, which Slashdot doesn't.
The fact that you can even compare a beta version of Windows Vista to a final release of Apple's operating systems speaks volumes about their qualities. Microsoft truly trumps the hacker shop that is Apple.
Normally when an article is posted on Slashdot about OSDL, it gets the disclaimer that Slashdot is owned by OSDL. Why was that skipped this time?
Zonk, please amend the text for editorial propriety.
Thanks,
Drew
This is no different from people tracking you down for dissenting against the Government, and yet you Slashdotters applaud this? You aren't pro-Freedom at all.
Lived with quite a few, too. They averaged 1.5 hours a day on bathroom tasks (don't ask me WHAT they're doing in there - if they're bringing in a book I'm wrong) while I spend that time on logic, number theory and combinatorics. Is it any surprise that I'm a tad smarter than they are, when they spend all of that time dousing themselves in antibiotics while I'm enriching my brain?
You don't understand the purpose of patents.
If [multi-billion dollar multi-national] can come up with it at all, then there isn't a point - for society (not for you) - to grant you a patent - an exclusive monopoly on the invention.
The author "works in robotical and anatomical engineering". Did anyone catch this? AFAIK, most such laboratories use Linux/Unix as their development environments. He admits to this too.
He evidently knows (or should know) a lot more about Linux than he is apparently willing to admit. So this article can't be written from the perspective of a Linux newbie.
So don't get the idea that this reflects experiences of a n average Windows user switching to Linux for the first time.
I hope this isn't part of their Chinese firewall partnership, so they can remove dissenting blogs - one of the last bastions of effective political change.
there would be no damage from smashing the NES or its controllers against the floor. Hell, it was designed so that you could turn it off by KICKING it.
While it works well in Internet Explorer, I couldn't get videos to play in Firefox. In Opera, they started to play but after a few seconds it stops and wants to report a serious error to Microsoft. The second time I tried in Opera, it caused the screen to black out and rebooted my computer.
Although most of us would be hesitant to say this, in -this- situation (as it's not a warez bust), what he did wasn't theft - he didn't delete the data from their drives after he took it - so it's something, albeit not right, other than theft. I say this because proper terminology precedes proper logic which precedes a just system.
One thing that the news item left out of this wonderful product is that the average latency of about 800 ms for a satellite connection makes the product a poor supplier of interactive internet browsing. It will suffer the same problems that the Directway system does.
That doesn't mean it doesn't have a lot of uses. It just means that when the marketing types start hyping the product they conveniently overlook its limitations. And in comparing it to fiber optic without mentioning latency issues, they are doing just that.

when they can't even ship enough chips to meet existing demand?

I was referring more to the recent work on using the GPU for non-graphical tasks.
Is that commensurate with how well it performs in games?

I remember that episode of Max Headroom.
The screenshots have the Apple logo, and since these screenshots are from pirated programs, it does not qualify as "Fair Use".
Why don't they release 1.1 instead? Arbitrary version numbers are silly
I don't think those bacteria have warp capability yet, we should let them evolve in peace!

that x86 would never hit 100MHz!

Perhaps if your time is worthless. Actually, I suppose IT workers are so cheap now that it doesn't matter.
I personally do want the internet to be a safe haven for criminals. Think of all of the people you know. How many of them are not criminals?
