I'd rather trust someone who sticks to their convictions than someone who wants to stop and think about every danged thing going on around them. Ahh yes. Thinking about the world around you is always something to be looked down upon. Thats why its okay to make fun of those goofy nerds in high school.
why does the left try so hard to silence any opinion they don't agree with, then say that the right is unAmerican? ...For the same reason that the right does.
While I realize that Wikipedia is not yet the perfect repository of all human knowledge, I did find it strange that the Wikipedia article about Tunguska never mentions any 3-ton rocks. As a matter of fact, it indicates that the only physical traces of the *whatever* are microscopic glass spheres.
This isn't just due to interest, it's due to societal pressure on them to not learn tech skills because appearing too geeky would make them unattractive or get them to be socially shunned.
[sarcasm] And men never have that problem... [/sarcasm]
I got my first iPod for Christmas '06, so I've been playing with iTunes for about 7 months now. I concur with everything riceboy50 just said, and it was exactly what I was thinking as I read networkBoy's post.
I dislike iTunes for other reasons. It seems to be a resource-hog. It installs background processes that are always running. Its yet another program that adds "qttask" to my startup programs. It's covered with annoying ads, and makes poor use of screen real-estate.
That being said, I'd like to paraphrase Winston Churchill. iTunes is the worst iPod/podcatcher/jukebox software for Windows except all the others that I've tried. I would actually be most grateful if someone could point me to an open-source alternative that actually works (unlike Floola).
I've never used a MythTV rig. But, its my understanding that they don't offer the "Thumbs Up/Down" and "Suggestions" features that TiVo offers.
I've used a TiVo for 2 years now. I really like that it makes guesses about what shows I will like and goes and gets them when its idle and has free space. These recordings are considered low-priority and are the first to be deleted if it needs room for shows that I have requested. In this way, I'm often introduced to shows that I have never heard of and I end up liking them.
Thats not really how it works. For simplicity, lets say we have 5 districts with 100 people each. This is how they voted in the last election.
District 1: R=60 D=40 District 2: R=60 D=40 District 3: R=60 D=40 District 4: R=40 D=60 District 5: R=40 D=60
Now, lets say we redraw districts #4 and #5 base on how people voted so that its more like:
District 4: R=60 D=40 District 5: R=20 D=80
Yay! The Rs picked up another seat! We don't have a slimmer majority anywhere...we just consolidated our opponents so that they can't get as many people in office.
Having lived in places where there was nothing available but dial-up, I have to wonder when people keep pulling out this satellite argument. Last time I looked into it, it required really expensive hardware that was not available at your local Wal-mart. The monthly access fees were outrageous, and service was unreliable due to weather and planetary rotation. Not to mention the effects of the local topography if you happened to live in a mountainous region.
Can someone please link me to some reliable, affordable satellite broadband services? I'd be most interested.
Being that I can't read the original Hebrew, I can't argue as to the intricacies of the meanings of "plant of the field" and "shrub of the field".
How about this? Chapter 1 says God created aquatic creatures and birds on the 5th day. On the 6th day, he created the land creatures. Then he created man and woman -- also on the 6th day, but specifically after the other creatures.
However, Chapter 2 says God made man and placed him in Eden. Then God made the animals (specifically including birds). Evidently, Adam wasn't into bestiality. So God created woman
So, which was it?
Chapter 1 says:
1)Plants 2) Birds & Fish 3) Land Animals 4) Man & Woman
Chapter 2 says:
1) Man 2) Animals and Birds 3)Woman
The point here is that Genesis 1:1-2:3 is a wholly separate creation story from Genesis 2:4-2:24. I am a god-loving Christian. But when I hear people say they believe that the biblical Creation story is factual, I have to ask them, "Which one?"
1) Name-calling to support your argument indicates you obviously aren't well educated yourself.
2) Actually, the definition of pornography includes the word "obscene". Again, I question your own education.
3) A large portion of the world population does not think its appropriate for children to view obscene images.
4) The poorest education system in the world?!? Give me a break! I suppose child soldiers in Africa, and enslaved children working as camel jockeys in Yemen have a better education than the people who made it to the moon first?
I recently moved to Louisville Kentucky from nearby Frankfort, Kentucky. I have no problems now, but in Frankfort we had one choice -- Cable Broadband. As a matter of fact, when I moved to Frankfort in 2001, we couldn't even get that. And Frankfort is the state capitol! Most people from sizable cities don't realize that DSL and even Cable broadband are unavailable in a large portion of the country. Anyone not living in a city has very few choices.
As far as Satellite Broadband -- please correct me if I'm wrong. My research into this (a couple years ago) showed that connection speeds were terrible and the prices were outrageous.
Actually, revisionist history is often taught in US schools. I attended public schools in rural southern Georgia. We were taught that the American Civil War (a.k.a. The War of Northern Aggression) was a struggle for "States Rights". We were told that the issue of slavery was just trotted out by the north as propaganda to make the southern states look bad.
Decades later, I realize that although there is probably some truth to that, continuing to teach it that way does nothing but foster racial and geographic resentments within the nation. (e.g. "Damned Yankees!")
I've used WinRAR and 7-zip. I definitely choose 7-zip over WinRAR. Its faster, works on more file-formats and its free open-source.
ROFL! Whoever modded this guy down has not had the misfortune to have seen goatse.

Oops. My bad. I mis-read what I was pasting...I thought he said "thousands of pounds". My apologies, Surt.
I think that was the GP's point. This meteorite was "thousands of tons of rock"...

Sounds like marriage to me.../P.
Don't forget the current crop of funny sci-fi shows. There's Eureka and Doctor Who. Stargate: Atlantis has its moments, too.
But this is not a new concept. Red Dwarf was pretty funny.
Well said!
Oh come on mods. That's funny!

You really should try to get out and make some friends.

I thought Jews supported genital mutilation too. Now, its common in most Western countries. I know my son and I were both circumcised at birth.
This article calls it closer to 40%.
