About file formats not being readable after a few years, if a file format is mainstream, you can be almost certain that there will be converters or tools to migrate files in the old file format to the new file format.

Do you also have some idea about getting in for Masters or higher degree in US colleges? I wonder what type of students they generally admit and how they decide which applicants to pick? I was thinking about Caltech, UC Berkeley, MIT and the like.

It really is hard to believe that most students in Masters degree are foreigners. I guess that could also mean more competition for me as a foreigner (I am an Indian).

I agree completely. The big bang theory is very unconvincing, mostly because there doesn't seem to be a way that matter could form out of nothing and suddenly explode in a short time too. I wonder if there was any beginning of the universe at all.

Also, if there was a beginning, nothing should prevent another universe from forming again.

In Gmail, the problem is false positives: when Gmail labels a message as junk, it moves *the whole thread* to the junk folder.

This has never happened to me. I keep checking the threads.

I use it many times to go to pages which I know are the top result. Like, many times I need putty in windows, I just type

    http://www.google.com/search?q=putty+download&btnI

It takes you directly to the putty download page. It's also useful in IM when people who don't know how to use Google ask (say) "where can I download TestDisk?" http://www.google.com/search?q=testdisk&btnI

Saves some time and mouse clicks.

  10. Objective-C on Eclipse Makes Java Development on the Mac Easier · · Score: 1

Objective-C was influenced a lot by Smalltalk and was not developed by any big company. It seems to be a lot flexible, and doesn't require a huge virtual machine on top of it. Objective-C is also a strict superset of C, so C libraries and programs can run without much overhead.

Most of Mac OS X software is written in Objective-C. It might be a niche market, but it isn't irrelevant.
