  2. Better question: on Would Vendor Liability for Bugs Kill OSS? · · Score: 0

Would it kill companies like Microsoft, Companies who do what 60 percent of the code in a major release in 8 months? The same companies that disclose in the EULA that their software is "as-is" and must be accepted with bugs and they are not liable for them? The same company that takes years to release trivial bugfixes and have no real release schedule for these fixes (sorta fly by the seat)

I think that is a bad example. linux doesn't depend on proprietary code to operate. Instead adopting FOSS alternatives, it promoted growth within the FOSS community. Adopting dependencies outside FOSS does not contribute to its growth, in fact it increases dependencies on the closed source API's, software, code etc. ... which is bad.

  6. No it doesnt work on No Respect for Windows Open Source · · Score: 0

If its based on non-open source services then it shouldn't get the same regard as something that is. If you have an open source game, based on directx what is it really contributing to the open source community? more code that needs proprietary API's? Basing something off opensource services also allows for the SERVICES to get some help in knowing which direction to go, possibly even taking some code and incorporating it for their own. I believe that for a project to be truly open source it must also rely on open source projects only, otherwise its not contributing at all to FOSS alternatives to whatever they are using.

its pretty out of context then. I really think he's just a big weenie :-(. I guess I still dont understand what a manual attack is, but im thinking the recent ssh attacks where someone logs into the system and does malicious stuff themselves without the aide of programs. And if that's what he means it's generally caused by people being stupid (i.e. leaving a temp login in the system, bad permissions etc.)

Maybe with the two button mouse apple made and its new hardware and its opengl support it will become the industry leader for gaming. We might see a lot more games ported to linux too. Then again the worse could happen; the developers could feed into this and start developing in DX. I think however if that does happen, theres nothing anyone can do about it I think. Then again they went after microsoft for internet explorer, media player, this could surely be something that they get brought to court over. Certainly monopoly tactics its like were back in the 1920's again it will just take some time for the justice system to figure it out.
