"Shit in one hand and wish in the other. See which one fills up first."
I doubt this will sway very many people away from the iPhone. The iPhone is already an iconic brand. Just "catching up" won't be enough to turn anyone's eye.
So let me get this straight, you're criticizing Apple because they update their OS and hardware regularly? Mac OS X usually has been $129, that's it, not $300+ bucks for XP/Vista/Win 7 Professsional Ultimate Enterprise Edition. One price and you get it all.
And XP costing virtually nothing to operate? So your comparison is the price to upgrade Apple software and hardware versus the cost to just operate an XP machine? Talk about an apples to oranges comparison.
Sorry, XP cost a LOT to operate. On top of the bloated price for a version of the OS that is even usable I'd have to add it the time spent maintaining the the swiss cheese OS from viruses and other malware. Slower and slower performance as Windows bloat hits the registry. Clock cycles wasted on anti-virus. Time wasted scanning for spyware. Time spent reinstalling the OS when you just can't fix the bloat or get rid of all the spyware any more. No, XP is plenty expensive.
"Whores make more money than bitches."
- No greater wisdom was ever expressed. I too find it useful to incorporate prostitution in all my analogies. I find that it it clarifies like nothing else can.
Easy there Mister Low Hanging Fruit. You might want to do a little research on the topic before taking such a simplistic viewpoint. While slavery was wrong, there were other factors in play at the time. Actually Jefferson hated slavery and wanted to free his slaves, but he was very concerned about their safety if he freed them. A freed slave did not exactly have better options in life at that time. I'm not making him out to be a saint, but our simplistic view of the topic from 200 years later does not really take into account some of the realities of the time.
Correction, Windows is like a high maintenance girlfriend that is never happy no matter how much attention you lavish on her. Linux is like a girl who is a little fugly, but if you spend enormous amounts of time and effort on her she looks really good. Mac is your trophy wife with a PHD that doesn't require you to waste time "taking care of her", and she's ready to do anything you want all the time.
I think you misunderstand what the word monopoly means. Just about every manufacturer has a monopoly on their hardware if you take it to mean they are the only ones that manufacture that product. Toyota, Caterpillar, General Electric, everyone basically falls under that umbrella. But when you're talking about a monopoly in terms of a MARKET then Apple most certainly does not have a monopoly. There are tons of options in the personal computer market.
"You actually trust people whose moral standards are from an old book"
- Would it be more palatable if it was from a new book? If it is, in fact, a moral truth then old book or new book, it doesn't matter, it wouldn't change over time.
"who could hug you all your life and then kill you in a second if they suddenly perceive you as a treat to their faith! Speechless..."
- Welcome to humanity. We're all flawed. I could easily remove the word "faith" and substitute the words "political dogma" or "job" or "family income". The brief rebuttal to this sentence of yours is that it paints a LOT of people negatively based on the actions of a very narrow minority. I could use the same example with communists if I wanted and it would be just as accurate (or inaccurate as the case may be).
Turns out you're not as enlightened as you thought you were.
About the only thing obvious was the stupidity of the poster on that one. It was like a line taken out of a Steve Ballmer playbook.
1. Throw chair
2. Ridiculous laugh
3. State that Macs are just used by designers
4. Profit?
"include more "Click here to try AOL" crap on the desktop"
Whoa, a reference to software. My point is made. It's about the COMPUTER, not just the hardware. Nice try though.
Hmmm, so a person who is too stupid to understand why people buy Macs automatically assumes it's an "expensive, designer computer". Shocked I tell you!!
Jeez, wake up. Macs are more expensive because you're not just getting a grey box with shit software installed. You can an integrated system, both hardware and software, that work great together. You get freedom from viruses. You get the great iLife suite. You get freedom from Winblows and it's old, outdated architecture. You get freedom from spending hours and hours of "maintaining" your system so it will continue running. You get freedom from your machine getting slower and slower as the months pass because Windows is getting bogged down.
Your ridiculous "fanboys" comment coupled with your last sentence shows that the real person that has got bent over was you. You bend over and take all the annoyances with a Windows box and keep coming back for more. The Mac lovers made a conscious choice to leave that world of shit behind, and you seem to willingly come back to it. One could make the argument that you are the lemming in this discussion...
But that is not what the thread is about. I'm not going to buy a computer from Dell that is just hardware and have no software installed. That's a meaningless comparison. The real question is computer versus computer. Similar specs in hardware and software. If you exclude the software side then you've excluded half of the equation.
Which version of Vista were you including. It had better be the premium/pro version (I don't even know or care what the versions are any more) so it has the same capabilities as OS X. Also, did you include the software equivalent of iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, Garageband?
Apples to Apples comparisions tell a different story.
Oh jeez, what utter BS. Well then I'll just say that I'll buy my Mac when a sale comes and get it for the same price as your PC. So now your PC is no longer less money.
Try and follow the discussion please rather than making up very narrow scenarios that don't broadly apply.
The idea that Mac users are buying the image is simply nonsense. It may help you sleep at night thinking that, but you are full of shit if you actually believe it.
And I'll bet it was still not an apples to apples comparison. The studies have been done and similarly spec'd machines usually are within $100 of each other. Some of the times the Mac is the cheaper one. Sorry, but we'd have to see side by side specs to see if they were even close to each other.
I'll just reply to all the rocket scientists who have been posting about building a machine for far less. . . We're not talking about building a machine! This is a comparison of buying a pre-built computer with buying another pre-built computer. i.e. An apples to apples comparision.
And for the reasons behind Mac owners having a Windows machine too, it's easy enough to explain. Mac marketshare has been growing quickly lately. People are hearing good things from Mac owners and they are switching from Windows to Macs, but they have their last Windows machine laying around the house yet. It's sort of a safety net as they switch. Until they realize that all the BS about no software for Macs, etc. is pure FUD. They may have the Windows machine, but I'd be interested to know if it gets used very much any more, or if it's been relegated to a kids computer, or if it's required for doing something for work (probably unnecessarily).
It's my lawn too you retard. And let's not forget that it was your unchecked capitalism which caused the massive economic problems that Obama has to fix. Feel free to put the blame squarely where it belongs, the administration in power for the last 8 years. Obama is just stuck cleaning up their mess.
As for totalitarianism, take a look at the past administration as well. They presided over the biggest executive power grab and flaunting of the constitution that this nation has ever known. We are probably closer to a totalitarian government than at any other time in our country's history. The current President can read and understands the constitution. I'll take him over the idiot parade you seem to prefer any day.
And as for not knowing Fox News, I think you're lying. If you wouldn't have known about them then you would have said that earlier. Now you're just attempting to weasel out of the trap your own lies have created. In short, you're full of shit.
Well, first of all a citation isn't NEEDED. It's just wanted by you as a way to defend yourself because you realize your post was full of shit and can't stand on it's own.
But for evidence that you do watch Fox News and that you are a brainwashed fool, I point you to your initial and last post. Your initial post spewed some crap about "indoctrinated into the living-outside-of-your-means credit based lifestyle President Obama seems to be pushing for now". Never mind that is completely untrue. I have heard him repeatedly say that Americans need to learn to live WITHIN our means and stop reckless, irresponsible accumulation of debt. I have NEVER heard him ecourage American's to live outside their lifestyle. Maybe you should produce a citation.
Your second piece of drivel was "you socialist bastard's defacto defense". Right now the top bullshit argument dumped on brain dead folks watching Fox News are that Obama is a socialist, his followers are socialist, and that we are headed towards some socialist doomsday scenario. Second rate scare tactics fostered on weak minded fools who equate the word socialist with the Ruskies invading America.
All in all your stupid arguments could be lifted right off a Fox News propaganda broadcast. Too bad you can't produce some original thought instead of repeating their talking points verbatim. Try and think for yourself for once instead of swallowing everything they give you. (Sort of an art imitates life sort of thing for you I'd imagine. ..)
So no, I don't have a citation for you because one isn't needed. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and sounds like a duck . . .
"being indoctrinated into the living-outside-of-your-means credit based lifestyle President Obama seems to be pushing for now. Fuck him and fuck that."
Feel free to pull your Fox News brainwashed head out of your ass.
The short answer is, Yes! It's a cattle call any more. An example is a rumor in our large company that the CEO and CTO both have stock in the Indian outsourcing company we use. They have the right of first refusal to place someone in all IT positions in our company now. Our CTO said he didn't want any more American workers hired for IT jobs. Not sure if owning stock in that other company is illegal or not (considering they are pushing all hiring through that company) but it's sure as hell unethical.
Get out now. Start your own janitorial company. Both IT and janitors are knee deep in shit, but at least you will always have a job with your own janitorial company.
"Shit in one hand and wish in the other. See which one fills up first."
I doubt this will sway very many people away from the iPhone. The iPhone is already an iconic brand. Just "catching up" won't be enough to turn anyone's eye.
Shhhhhhh! Steve Ballmer knows exactly what he's doing. Now if you'll excuse me I have to load up on some Apple stock.
So let me get this straight, you're criticizing Apple because they update their OS and hardware regularly? Mac OS X usually has been $129, that's it, not $300+ bucks for XP/Vista/Win 7 Professsional Ultimate Enterprise Edition. One price and you get it all.

You attempt to sidestep reality aside, SP2 is 5 years old and XP IS 8 years old.

I agree, you can't argue they are equivalent. Because they aren't.
