  1. And how has downloading hurt them? on FFVII Advent Children Dated · · Score: 1

I've downloaded FFVII:AC and watched it multiple times. However, you can be damn sure I'll be first in line when this gets released in the US. Hell, it might even be my first UMD movie (only if packaged with the DVD).

As for making them writeable, why? That's why they have a thing called a memory stick slot.

Cost effective high volume storage. $100 a flash stick isn't exactly cost effective, nor is it high volume (1 or 2g is nothing when you think in movie terms).

I'd love to watch my movies on a PSP, on the go, but having to rebuy any one of my 300 DVDs isn't exactly something I'm willing to do.

It's a slippery slope. Advertising in games will only work if gamers continue to play the games. I know plenty of gamers that will refuse to pay for a game with ads as well as refuse to play a game where ads distract you...*cough*...That IS the purpose of an ad; to grab your attention.

Personally...I'm not throwing my support behind any game that puts in ingame ads. I'll stick with console games if I have to.

I have to agree 100% with that, too. I'm one of them!

I tried downloading songs, but found such a hassle getting anything of good quality. I'd have 24 songs, 18 of which were just horriable. I gave up on downloading. The iPod/iTunes just makes things easier. You can always get a short 30 second preview and you're always guarenteed to have a full song with no "beeps", "scratches" or anything ruining a good song.

Paying for songs have never been a concern of mine---the raise in prices IS. I remember the promise CD prices would drop ("once they became mainstream"), but have only raised.

One often-overlooked element that the Microsoft games group brings to the party is its unique GUIs that are unlike the folder/desktop metaphor that Xerox and Apple developed.

I love how they felt the need to jab at Apple/Xerox by comparing a desktop OS with a Gaming console. Shouldn't they have at least used Windows instead? After all, it is Microsoft's Xbox and 95, 98, 2k, XP and Windows Vista are all about the folder/desktop metaphors.

  13. Re: #3 on Jack Thompson vs Amazon? · · Score: 1

If Amazon dropped his listing, authors may or may not start worrying that if they complain about bad reviews (something lots of authors have to deal with) then Amazon might drop them instead of solving their issues.

I don't think that'll be an issue. The difference in this case is Jack is threatening Amazon. Most of your average authors won't. They'll just send a kind letter to Amazon asking for some reviews to be removed. If their point is valid, I'm sure Amazon would comply. However, in Jack's case, he's using a big bully tactic in attempts to get bad, even though well written, reviews removed.

What's the best way to deal with a bully? Ignore them and drop all support for them
