I've become fed up with the anti spyware programs...
I've had Adaware detect things Spybot doesn't, Spybot detect things Adaware doesn't detect, MS's program detect things Spybot doesn't detect, etc etc etc...
My usual course of action to thoroughly cleanse a system is to boot to safe mode, run adaware > spybot > MS antispyware > HijackThis...
My question is... will there ever be a program that can detect it all? Becuase so far, I haven't found one.
If there is any lesson to be learned from the Xbox, it is that people like to play against other people, not computers.
I disagree. This isn't true for all people.
If I'm sitting at home playing a game, and someone rings the doorbell, I can pause the game while playing against the computer. Or if something else comes up, I can save and turn the system off.
You can't do that when playing someone else. (Well, it's not polite to, at least) When I'm playing an online game, I make sure I'll have no distractions and I'll be able to dedicate my time to at least one game of whatever I'm playing.
When playing single player, or against a friend sitting next to me, you aren't "stuck" finishing a game. I feel bad making others wait, and hate when people do it to me in World of Warcraft. So... playing against a human isn't always better, IMO.
I can't WAIT. I was disappointed when Lucasarts cancelled Freelance Police, but it's great to hear that TT put it back into development. Sam and Max Hit the Road , along with Day of the Tentacle, are among my favorite adventure games.
Good to see a company is trying to revive the genre.
Although I suppose if they hadn't rebadged it, everyone who bought the 6800 would be pissed at the price cut.
Isn't that what happens with technology... prices go down? I got a 6800 for Christmas last year, a black friday CompUSA deal for 200 bucks after rebate... By this time, I'd almost expect it to be down around 100 bucks.
Also, on another topic, on some of these cards you can use RivaTuner to unlock the extra pipes and pixel shader, too... great if it works, but of course it's not guaranteed. Mine, unfortunately, shows artifacts when unlocked. Unlocking the GeForce 6800
I'd LOVE to see an attempt at a Zelda movie... not some cheap action thriller like Castlevania is sure to be, but an epic LOTR like movie. The stories are out there, they could pick the plot of any of the Zelda games... Perhaps A Link to the Past. Now, move on it Hollywood!
I personally have always played Horde and think BElves are an unimaginative addition. Really just a god awful idea.
For what reason?
IMO, I think it's a good move to give the Horde a "pretty" race. Before, people were complaining becuase so many more people played Alliance than Horde. This made PvP somewhat imbalanced. Alliance vs Horde isn't necessarily "pretty/good" vs "ugly/bad" as it's made out to be. This may balance out the numbers a bit.
They have spent a lot of time getting epic items which would not be considered good to a 70.
This is a game. They played to have fun. If they didn't have fun while doing it, they shouldn't be playing. WoW isn't a chore. There's no true "end". If it stayed at 60 and they got all of an epic set, then what? Maybe a 10 level jump is too big a jump too fast, but it had to happen eventually.
They wanted getting to level 60 to be the start of the game, not the end. Raising the level cap goes against this
Then they need to have some other type of incentive for running instances or going on raids. The small chance a drop that you can use will drop, and that you'll get the high roll, isn't worth the time or effort.
The purpose of an MMORPG is to play a fantasy based game in an MMO environment.
Right. But, everyone plays their own character. They're their own entity. They have personalities, as well as a level.
I guess I just see WoW as more than just a "game". I used to play Gemstone III, a text based MUD. When you were playing, you ONLY spoke of things in game. You don't mention the word "game" unless it was a game you were playing in character. You don't mention "xp til level" becuase that was OOC (out of character). The goal of the game was to develop your character... in level, with friends, with organizations...
It wasn't a race to some level. There was no level cap, but there were only monsters up to a certain level. It took me a year to get to level 20, and there were some (maybe 10-20 out of thousands) that were >100.
I don't know if it's me or you who's looking for the wrong thing in the game. We'll see where it goes. But if I wanted to play PvP, I'd play counterstrike, or Halo, or Warcraft III online. With those games, it's more about your skill level, not how long you've played to get ultra mega gear. Me? I just want to develop my character. I play on a PvE server and could care less about killing other players.
I may quit over it
No one's stopping you. No one stopped me when I first quit, it's not hard.
SO you level and grind to 60 why? If you're not going to enjoy the content at 60, the entire grinding is a waste of time.
Um... I "grinded" (actually, I didn't grind, I simply "played") becuase I enjoyed the content. I liked the quests. I liked going out hunting and earning gold and xp. Then once I hit 60, I couldn't do that anymore (xp, at least). How exactly is that a waste of time? I even stated that I recently started playing again, and started a new character. I enjoy 1-60 more than being level 60.
To me, it seems like YOU'RE the one playing the wrong game. You're essentially saying that to play the game YOU want to play, you have to be max level. Sounds to me like you just want to play multiplayer Warcraft 3 all over again... everyone starts with a clean slate at the beginning of every game.
The purpose of a MMORPG is about progression and developing your character, not about getting to a certain number so the "real" game begins.
Besides, with the level cap you can play just like you have been. Running the same instances, doing quests, etc... now you'll just be earning XP. Is it really going to have an effect on your game THAT much? Will you play differently now? I doubt it.
Leveling is something you do to get to the fun, it should be as short as possible (non-existant is preferable).
See, different strokes for different folks. Once I hit the level cap of 60, I didn't really care about playing anymore. What's the point of doing instances, PvP, quests, etc? To have a small percentage chance that you could get a new weapon? That's BORING to me. Leveling gave me a sense of progression. I hit 60, I got bored, I quit. (This was back in March that I quit... played from November to March. However, I joined again last week and started a new character)
Its also going to totally FUBAR the skill trees. 10 more talent points.
I highly doubt they'll just give out 10 more talent points and leave the trees as they are now. Blizzard isn't that stupid, they know how much this would imbalance things. They'll either add more talents, or give no talent points >60.
I won't complain about being able to gain another 10 levels either.
It seems like the majority of people on the forums are complaining because they've "worked so hard" to get epic items for their level 60 character, and that a green lvl 70 item will be better than their epic item.
But, I mean, come on... gaming is about fun, not about accomplishment. This "I'm l33ter than you becuase I have a purple weapon" has gotten out of control. (Besides, the epic items out now have an "item level" that's >60 anyway... so don't wet yourself, your epic item is still "better")
To the complainer, I say this... you worked so hard to get your items... What, did you think you had to do that once, then you were the coolest person in the game... forever? The game is going to expand, to change, and you're going to have to continue to play... isn't that a good thing?
Really, the source of the complaining is that it kicks their "l33tness" down a notch. Suddenly someone is level 61 and they're only 60, oh noes! The world is over!
A word of advice: Stop taking it so seriously and just have fun
Personally, I'm excited about that... I wasn't a fan of the endgame, and leveling was my source of fun. Once I reached the cap, I didn't care about getting uber gear or anything like that. Sure, I'll reach 70 eventually as well, but 10 more levels of content is exciting to me...
People will complain about anything, won't they? (Especially when it comes to MMORPG gamers)
Expect to see an sharp increase in the number of lockerroom and bathroom pics.
It's not like camera phones are new. For a long time now, cell phones haven't been allowed in locker rooms. (at least at the gyms around me)
(besides... Girls taking pictures of girls? Guys taking pictures of guys? How often do you think that would happen? I understand it could be a "business", but I doubt it'd happen too much anyway)
It seems like a lot of the things dealing with the Xbox360 have been rushed... I mean, here it is less than a month before it's released and I still don't think there's a 100% accurate list of games that will be available on the day of release.
This seems like the easiest place to cut corners. If the game will run fine using single threads, there's no incentive to develop a more streamlined game when time is of the essence.
This always seems to happen with systems, though... games coming out later in the system's lifespan look a lot nicer than games early on. As they use the SDK more they'll learn tricks to make things run and look better.
I'm sure if you took a poll of the audience, a similar percentage (if not less) would exclusively own either a PS2 or an Xbox as well... nowadays, hardcore gamers will have more than one system.
The fact that 10% of the audience own ONLY a Gamecube means nothing. The fact that the majority of them DO own a Gamecube DOES mean something.
Sounds to me like this guy just has a grudge against Nintendo. (and/or, is an Xbox fanboy... scary when the developers themselves become fanboys)
The majority of comments are based upon the fact that this is combining video games with fast food... kids will go and sit and get fat and play their DS while eating a happy meal.
I have two points to make. 1 - This is smart for Nintendo. If they could pick one place that there are already lots of kids, and is widespread across the entire country, it would be McDonalds. 2 - Since when is it up to Nintendo to keep your kids trim? I'm sick and tired of people blaming anyone other than a kids' parents for childhood obesity (and whatever other problems a child has)
Point being... smart move for Nintendo. Profit off of the bad choices by the parents of America.
Sure, he can come up with a good story, and direct well... but it's not like his directing expertise will mean he can create a good game.
I'll be interested to see what he comes up with...
And... what is it with all these "famous" people who try to break the barriers of what they do? Rappers in movies, moviestars recording cds, etc... and now, directors creating video games.
I had a friend a long time ago who used to do some GM stuff for Gemstone (if I recall correctly). Gemstone had (has?) a lot of GM run events doesn't it?
Yep, you're right. That's one of the things I loved about Gemstone. (haven't played in years, though) When there was a merchant... it was an actual person. To get something altered, you would actually have a conversation with the merchant...
The buzz was always about when "the Juggie" (juggernaut, a merchant ship) would come... or other big groups of merchants... there would be rooms with just goods to buy, but in others there'd be actual humans controlling all powerful merchants... enchanting a weapon or shield or armor, altering goods, creating special items, etc... The game felt MUCH more personal than current online games.
Heck, I remember running around with Spike the War Rat, a gigantic rat who could talk... he was worked into the plot of the game in various ways. One day, he "died"... I still remember his funeral... (insert dorky, heartfelt sniffles)
There were SO many ways GS was a changing world. Penant races, dragon bones (gambling), etc... it never felt like a stagnant world. But, I suppose when it's just text, it's much easier to add content.
BUT, if ALL systems DID have the hard drive... that allows the game developers to utilize it to it's max potential.
Imagine if the Revolution's controller was optional. An add-on of sorts. That kind of cripples the system. But since ALL the systems will have this extra ability, it means the developers can utilize it. Only having a fraction owning a particular accessory could scare developers away from actually using it.
This, IMO, is why it's too bad that all the systems don't have the hard drive.
I don't think they're saying it's too big for a pocket.... BUT, to be conspicuous in a pocket... yeah, the SP is a bit too big. Even with my cell phone in my pocket, when I sit down it's annoying to see the outline of my phone through my work pants.
"Is that a Gameboy SP in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"
gameboy.ign.com's review of the Micro is actually pretty positive
Here's the ending summary of it: The GB Micro isn't exactly the ideal way to enjoy Game Boy Advance games, but don't misjudge it by its size. Given the choice between toting a GBA SP in our backpacks or a GB Micro in our pockets, we'll take the Micro. It's tiny, its screen is amazing, and it is surprisingly comfortable to hold.
B) Make the game primarily for other consoles, and hack together a Rev-controller interface (i.e. doesn't take full advantage of the revolution controller)
IMO, I really don't think it will be too hard to "hack together" a Rev-controller interface. Think of it this way. Say you have a FPS where on the PS3, you use the right analog stick to "aim"... Would it really be so hard to adapt this control to what's essentially a 2d grid on the screen?
Example, pointed at the middle of the screen is as if you're not touching the analog stick... point down a bit, like you're pushing down on the analog stick... What you essentially have is just another analog 2d stick, you just point instead of push a stick around.
If you think about it like that, I really don't think it would be too hard to adapt, although it does depend on the original control scheme.
Bingo! I don't have any problems with my home computer, or my computer at work.
But... friends, family, coworkers... I'm the one everyone goes to to fix their computer.
Oh well, such is the life of a computer geek ;-)
I've become fed up with the anti spyware programs...

The rumor was that the alliance race would be the Draenei
This hasn't been confirmed nor denied in the expansion news

this post, question 9 was mine. Yet: 9.) More solo endgame content? by Anonymous Coward
Not real important, just... odd.
