Hmmm I doubt it, when e-mail became popular did it get banned from work/school. Ya IM is a socializing medium, but it's benifits far outway it's drawbacks. It's way easier to just confrence people from the westend office the southside office and the downtown office all through IM than having everyone go to there respective boardrooms and setup a confrence call.
The SWF format is actually an open format. You have to submit some personal information, but it's all there for the public to see. The only thing they do do is keep it about 6 months to a year behind the latest version of flash. You can only get the 7 spec right now.
However Adobe does have full control of the direction of Flash and unfortunately that has many drawbacks as there are features that could be added and just have been overlooked for one reason or another.

Also if you'd like a solid action script compiler, but don't what the bloatware that Adobe releases check this out, it will compile Flash 8 too and gives a decent explanation how they do it.

I completely agree, we have localization so people can play together. If I wanted to play a game that I couldn't communicte with other people with I go load my old Nintendo. WoW is designed for people to play together and it's damn hard to do that if you can't speak the same bloody language even the slightest bit.
Well there was a reason Apple didn't buy Konfabulator, it's bloated and heavy. I guess the windows world gets something at least. Anyway does anyone really find the dashboard all that useful, it seems mostly like an overglorified way to get the weather.

I bet Microsoft really loves being on the wrong side of the vender lock in coin, if you can't make your service work with an IPod then you are not gonna be the next big store. End of story.
This seems like an effort in futility. With all the networks out there and only Limewire doing this people will just switch products. And if all the commerical networks start doing this then an OSS alternative will just take it's place. Check out http://gift.sourceforge.net/

I just checked out SPOT and they say that the best resolution they offer is 2.5m. Is there anywhere that does actually offer sub 1-metre resolution?
