"Are the founders techies? Do they have PhDs from places like MIT, Caltech, UC Berkeley or Stanford?"

To create AI, a person does not need a lab, a PhD, or even money. The only thing a person needs to create AI is a damn computer, the knowledge of at least one programming language, and maybe a book of general theories on AI. MIT, Caltech, blah, blah, and blah are just names with money and that is it. Yeah, they have some wicked smart people who attend the school, but there are wicked smart people who do not attend those schools. That is your first flaw is assuming, that they did not display their degree level in the article and then they are not smart enough. BULLS*IT.

"Where is the company based? Boston Area? Silicon Valley?"

Try a basement or a garage in the Midwest. Just because someone does not live in a certain area, does not make them any less creditable. Another BULLS*IT for you!

"Using Open Source for their web server?

How do you know that the software is not pirated, they are independently wealthy and could afford the license from Microsoft, or that they are running IIS on a Win2000, WinXP Pro or even a WinNT or Win98 machine? Assuming that a person does not have an Open Source type of web server makes them a bogus scientist is a crock. Another BULLS*IT for you. That is 3 out of 4 BULLS*ITs and you loose. Go back to the drawing board and reexamine your life and values. Before you do that grad your ears, pull really, really hard till you hear a loud pop, then take a look around at the world, and then reexamine your life and values.

This goes more with the parent, but who decides what is considered porn? The far left, the far right, the government, religious zealots, sexually repressed, or parents who can't take responsibility for their child's actions, so who decides what is porn? I know that if I were to label all items that showed cleavage, thongs, or anything showing flesh above the knee as porn, we the people would not have anything to look at while surfing the internet. As a result, all your party pictures, family pictures, or even pet pictures ( I know I could find a toe in one of those pictures ) that you may have posted on a website will have to placed on a .xxx site because the probability of sexual related content, according to the above rules, is high.

    As for the comment:

"Get rid of that fscking stuff... Because you should just get your own anyway."

What if you cannot get your own? What if the person is deformed in some form or another and they cannot find anyone of the opposite sex to have sex with. Then as a source of relieving sexual frustrations the deformed person turns to porn, but with your line of thinking would take away their only source of sexual pleasure. Now you have taken their constitutional rights away from them because you think they need to go out and get some. Sad, just sad to see people thinking like a mass media egocentric child who thinks that they can get anyone they feel is worth their pretty looks. Life learning lesson: not everyone is beautiful and some beautiful people never get out to get some because of job or other demands. Grab your ears, pull till you hear a pop, and then take a look at the world around you.

"I doubt we'll see it while Bush is still in power."
And every other president for that matter and I would even say that 98% of all politicians do not what to reverse this because they are in the pockets of the major players within corporate America. Corporate American are the ones that control the majority of patents and they are the ones who wish to put the brakes on innovation through the patent office. God forbid they loose a few bucks because someone took an idea of their own, produced it, put the product out there for everyone, and forgot to check the 9 + billion patents ultimately ending in a lawsuit.
Oh, I completely agree with you on that.

  9. I know... on National Academies on U.S. Science · · Score: 1

First step: Paint a picture through the television that being a science "nerd" or a math "geek" as the correct persona for the American pop-culture. Second step: Fire all the instructors in all the institutions of high learning that would rather do research than teach the next generation. Teaching first, research last! Third step: Give the tools that the children need in order to understand the sciences and mathematics. In other words, let the kids dig the holes in the school yard and identify the different layers of dirt. Thus, allowing for the kids to get their hands dirty with the field work. Finally: Get rid of all of the course work that does not pertain to the sciences. World Lit, History, and various other courses do not need to be on the curriculum for the sciences. The sciences are like a foreign language; in order to master the language you have to submerge yourself in it with no deviations. Thats it my input to the dilemma.

While I was in the military and stuck overseas, the only tv that we recieved was AFN(Armed Forces Network). AFN was about half to a full session behind on everything except for CNN. The last three years of my second tour, I lived on the economy and could not recieve AFN, so I was stuck with Italian networks. The only source of information (streaming news casts) came from the web and that source was primary CNN. Then CNN drooled over the idea to charge people to watch thier streams. That was when I lost any kind of contact with the outside world in terms of tv. I think that yahoo should go for streaming tv. If not for anyone in this country, then at least for the folks stuck overseas. They need to be connected!
