"I really don't have any idea what was going on in his mind..."
Interesting. From the mother's own lips comes the same apathy as the parents of the columbine (and other) killers.
So, what surprise is it that suicide or homicide is the price to pay for "closing the bedroom door" on the modern teenager? Hell, you'd think we'd be learning something by now.
...so when you first turn it on your new microsoft computer, the mouse will prick your finger for blood and sequence your dna, while at the same time injecting *the devil* nanochip into your veins...
then a webcam snaps your pic, which -- and as soon as the thing boots (some 6 minutes and 6.6 seconds later) -- is sent with your dna & directly to bill gates (cc'd to satan, for his records) before you even get the prompt to enter your precious cd-key...
and then, once approved as a genuine microslave, *your* computer then immediately begins downloading demonic alien virus packs [aka microsoft update crap] from the redmond campus -- along with bill gates personal self-porn gallery -- as "preparing your asshole for the first time" flashes across the screen...
a pack-a-day smoker spends over $1000/yr to breathe in toxic fumes at will...
why is it, then, so painful to shell out $50 or so bucks for something that's actually valuable?
hey, i like free stuff as much as the next, but there's something wrong when we are willing to pay for things *advertised* as being worth paying for -- but yet, we hate to pay for things with no advertising budget because they have no advertisting budget to convince us of worth!
oh yeah, it's the addiction thing - so programmers need to make software that is addictive, right?
go figure... we buy nintendo etc without bitching about that too, because it's advertised to be that way
"This program will create a new generation of computer security specialists who will work to defend our nation's computers" from those monopolistic bastards at Microsoft!!! Of course, Bill Clinton can make anything sound good, but you have to wonder about the government bribing students to come work for them... like giving away a browser with the operating system in a weird twisted way.
And perhaps there exists a *darkness* particle - say the "shadowon" - that travels 186,000m/s[rev]...at the opposite end of the speed spectrum, with particles at rest being in the middle at zero.
This *reverse time* stuff is about like arguing the existence of my "shadowon"... it adds nothing to any grand unified theory but more complexity - a monkey wrench that fixes nothing. Unless, of course, we open our minds up to the idea of reverse mass, reverse length and distance, and reverse energy... maybe even the square root of negative numbers. >8]
It seems to me that the whole HURD project [tho very promising in theory] has been in pre-beta hibernation for quite some time... so my question is:
What exactly would it take to ramp up work on the HURD so that *Debian/HURD* actually becomes reality... or maybe the question should be "is there no Linus Torvalds or Alan Cox for the lowly HURD??"
vmware is cool... but not under GPL, and still requires the native os to run.
but you are correct in that it is a solution to this problem, tho my thoughts are more towards an open source solution that eliminates the need for the additional os to run, and something that doesn't require me to fork out another $300... hey, i like the *freeness* of opensource stuff!:)
I think that what needs to be the focus here is not so much the apps themselves being ported to linux, but linux and the open-source community taking the 'wine' idea and really making it work so that ANY NT/9* app will run smoothly in linux.
the linux bunch can swing this kinda thing themselves from the bottom end [emulation] a lot easier than say getting autodesk and all the other killer software companies to REALLY port autocad or *whatever* to native linux...
besides, i don't want to have to wait for every app i want to be ported to linux just so i can use it... just think of the other killer apps for 3-d etc out there that are waiting for the linux community to make wine or *whatever* truly what we want it to be.

um, SUCK should not be BITING anything... that is, if suck wants return customers.

hehe... maybe if they offered mild sedatives we'd all be clicking those damn things!

we'll get the same thing we get now: a big fuck-u
like, who in their right mind thinks we're gonna get *rent* back if we don't like somebody's software?
when the landlord closes the doors, you better be looking for new digs.
