Pardon me for asking, but where exactly does th Blender foundation get the funds from to just be able to say 'we'll make a movie and a game this year'? Last time i checked, most (low-key) open source projects were dirt poor. How come this is different with Blender?
Nonetheless, still very cool that they actually have got the funds to open an office in Amsterdam (where housing is the most expensive of the whole of the Netherlands)
I actually really, really like (yes, present tense, im 16) high school. Might have something to do with me living in The Netherlands and going to a school with only the highest level of students (gymnasium) though.
The only mechanism that should set prices is the market That is the point, in all normal cases the market should set prices, but since Microsoft has a monopoly, and has been convicted of abusing it, the government should intervene in this case.
Dude your sig is really messed up. It roughly translates into: "you he was, i you will be". It should be either "Tu fuisti, ego ero" or "Ego fui, tu eris". And remember that tu or ego are optional.
PS: Latin grammar nazi team please mod me up for this, kthanks:P
I thought the two teams were friends now, with the whole 'here have some cake to celebrate your new release and lets come to my place to discuss a 12x12 icon' thing? Seems kinda weird for Microsoft to start spreading fud again. No?
Thats a stupid analogy. With OpenBSD summits its more like this:
OpenBSD Developer: I like safe code so im going to make sure all code we write is safe
OpenBSD Developer: I like readable code so im going to make sure all code we write is readable
OpenBSD Developer: I like safe code so im going to make sure all code we write is safe
OpenBSD Developer: I like readable code so im going to make sure all code we write is readable
Etc..
Seriously, why compare with the UK? The UK is one of the countries in Europe with the worst food, least exercise etc. Id like to see the US compared to countries like Spain, Norway or France. Those differences would even be bigger.
Don't forget Shareaza! www.shareaza.com It's open source, free and can connect to multiple networks including eDonkey, Gnutella, Gnutella2 and Bittorrent. It is windows only though.
I'm 15, not sure if that counts as a kid but i'll just post my experiences here anyway. Somewhere when i was 14, i was really involved with the Motorola E680/A780 hacking scene (for those who don't know, these are motorola phones running Linux). I managed to telnet to them and i started trying all kinds of things on them, basically exploring even though i had no idea what i was doing. There were a lot of other experienced people in that scene though, including for example Harald Welte. As such i learned a lot of new terms and new things. Wikipedia was a great help in this. So, after a while i wanted to start programming. When it came to choosing the language, i wanted either C or C++, because most of the programs for the phone where in those languages. I eventually went for C. So i went over to my local bookstore and got this big book, named C, The programming language by Al Kelly. I started learning and reading it, and managed to produce some small programs. I still felt stupid though, since they were command line! I mean how stupid is that. And the book didn't teach anything other than usage of the C stdlib. Also, i kinda got bored really fast with CLI programs. School didn't help either, which just thaught us how to use MS Office and Ms Paint (really!).
So, to sum up, i think the problems are: no necissity of doing in anymore, high entrypoint, i'm one of the smarter kids in my class and im doing Gymnasium and i thought some things of C were fucking difficult, and that we take GUI programs for granted nowadays.
Lol you don't have to be french to fix that error, i've had 2 years of french at school and saw immediately that that was wrong. Apparently he thinks that ipod is a plural feminin word, but then he forgot to change est into sont. Now if only someone made some dutch errors here...
Well as i said on Osnews already, i'm one of the moderators/editor from motorolafans.com, and have been since the beginning, and it's true that motorola hasn't been exactly helpfull with getting the sourcecode and they still owe us the bootloader code, too. The reason that they are so unhelpful is ofcourse really obvious. Who are their customers? The big telco companies. Where do big telco companies make their money from? From their customers calling with their phones. If you start giving out the kernel source and encourage hacking on these phones (with sdio hardware and a mini usb host controller), the users will be voiping in no time, which would piss of their customers, the telco's.
"As tantalizing as this Kreatel stuff is, it appears as though the SDK isn't available to average consumers yet. I hope that Motorola has the sense to realize that a devoted fan base of eager Linux device junkies will be a good thing for the platform."
Fat chance they won't release it. I am moderator of the biggest english forums for motorola linux based phones, and they didn't do anything to help us hack it. Heck, the GPL wasn't even included in the box and they didn't say where to get the kernel sources too. All we have to develop native apps now are some hacked headers and a few leaked from the SDK which does exist. Taking this in mind i doubt motorola will take any notice of the "Linux device junkies". Hell, i love motorola but i wish they'd act a bit more like nokia in this case.
Yep. At the moment im listening to music on my iPod with iPodlinux, browsing slashdot with my pc running on linux and sending an sms with my linux phone:-)
Gotta love being able to install linux on every random piece of hardware, don't ya?

I thought we only were at MPG-4 yet? My mom still things MP3 is whats hot right now.
Well only if you translate tu as "what one is" and ego as "what i am", which is not very common.
Ps: Isn't "hodie mihi, cras tibi" or something a better text for on a headstone?
PPS: I want a new head of the latin grammar nazi cheerleader team.

Nothing in the media about open sourcing the OS that runs on it however. Too bad, it could've been some good publicity for the OSS ideals.
Whats up with all these Americans thinking all adults signing up on MySpace are pedophiles? (Genuine question).
And no, i havent been following the American news lately.
Think of all the great voice-overs that could come of this movie! I, for one am waiting.
Flying chairs tag?

Nah, don't think so..

Why is that sad? Sorry, but i don't really see your point.
