orbits and things. it's amazing what you can do with mathematics. like CSI finding where a bullet came from in a musical montage with sticks and lasers and low-cut tops.
for fuck's sake, it's not at all worthwhile for scientists to have to spend most of their time with politics.
peer review exists so actual scientists can question results, rather than wasting everybody's time asking questions that were answered years ago, but the people asking the questions are too dumb and lazy to look up themselves (and develop the background necessary to understand the citations).
the sheer fucking arrogance of people to think they, with their complete lack of expertise, should be afforded equal time and effort to what the peer review process gets.
if scientists had to behave like politicians, they'd have achieved exactly as much as politicians - we'd still be poking each other with bronze tipped spears, and that only if the uninitiated could grasp the advantage of alloying copper and tin.
the concrete industry has a rich history with organized crime.
part of the reason for the Twin Tower's revolutionary construction was because they couldn't guarantee a good supply of concrete, so they rethought the construction somewhat.
when Japan's madly rebuilding, sometimes the wrong contractor might just get the job.
energy return on investment is more complicated than that. you're not factoring in the amount of energy the plants get from the sun, and the amount of resulting plant mass that can or can't be converted to ethanol.
Brazil does well with cane ethanol (competitive with some of the more desperate oil extraction methods, but not competitive with simply drilling it and letting it flow forth), but corn ethanol is slightly more energy invested than returned, even if you take the sun as free energy. corn plants are mostly cellulose with only a little bit of sugar. sugar cane has much more sugar by mass (and you can make rum and cachaca with what's left over after making fuel, even burning the celloluse to stoke your stills).
ethanol fuel only makes sense in places that can produce it economically.
this is fucking scary. considering software control of these machines, even in mission critical stuff can go so horribly wrong (stuxnet + therac-25 = this).
why do i have to go to the USA this year? fuck it all.
one problem is they're also looking for hidden passengers, no doubt.
maybe they should get the "real" passengers to hop out, then nuke the everloving fuck out of the car to take care of any illegals that may be being smuggled.
(hyperbole aside... seriously, buying new software and learning a new platform just to get that cool magnetic DC plug that Apple will sue anyone else who uses it over?)
this is as good a move as any. it's probably more geared toward people that want to geek out but can't afford to. not exactly the USA and UK, though it certainly doesn't exclude them.
revolution comes when the people have nothing left to lose, or fear.
while we're still comfortable, we will not fight - for comfort is better than the meat pile you mention.
when it gets to the point that our government is using the military against protesters, where people cannot afford to eat, where you never know if your friends of family will come home tonight... that's when it's time to fight.
no US government will be so bold as to erode the 2nd amendment, and if they try... well i wonder what would happen.
and the headlines would be full of "cyber gang busted" stories regardless.
if you can only catch small fish, you'll shout to the heavens just how many you got.
if 4chan has a wordfilter, why doesn't this place?
i suppose i could browse above -1, but i like feeding trolls too much.

why take advice that could enrich your life when you could check the post AC button and be a douchebag?

which is why half the stories are about Apple, and the other half about google. MS gets in there sometimes.
but you may not be here tomorrow...
perhaps we should substitute "crime" with "antisocial behaviour"?
gimme your hard disk and i'll find something in it that will have you hanged.
4chan was never good
is praying for a scientific breakthrough the spiritual equivalent of dividing by zero?
my money is on this.

from the Dells i've used, your statement might well be correct.
read the parent post before you trowel the butthurt on.

i love that /. exists - ever since 4chan jumped the shark, i've had nowhere to go.

sounds pretty horrible to me though.
who needs a solution that creates more problems?

all aboard the GodBus!
man, i wish the universe were so simple we could just ask God for interstallar travel :)
you're really upset at being downmod for a two word post?
something tells me you need to reinforce your ego somehow - it's looking a bit fragile.
fuck are you talking about?
a broken tax system is no use to business or "leftists".
i'm sorry the $25 computer people haven't saved the world yet.
so how would you go about un-entrenching it?

there's a few more variables, but the fight club formula is essentially what does happen.
cynicism aside, can you really blame them?
hence the reference to degeneration.
