i know "widely regarded" does not constitute proof, but consider that to gain proof, one must violate a state's sovereignty. not something that would be done lightly.

however, "widely regarded" was more than enough "proof" to convince the western world to jump on Iraq.

i'm not going to take a side on this. in my opinion both sides are very clearly in the wrong. there's no point arguing details or pointing fingers about how one side is "wronger" than the other.

and make no mistake, my opinion of Israel and Palestine being wrong does not reflect my opinion of the prevailing religions adopted by these sides.

what really shits me about both sides is they take criticism of policy to equal racism. wtf? i deplore Zimbabwe's government but i have no problem with black people. can't i think Israel's government is insane and also have no problem with Jews? or does my post deserve a Godwinning?

nuclear plants don't make plutonium. a vanishingly small number of reactor types can make useful (for weapons) plutonium, but those tend to be not so efficient for generating power.

most of the dangerous reactor designs of the past have been designed deliberately to avoid making anything useful. that's the main reason there's so much waste. it was the safest, most efficient design possible with crippling regulations in mind. re-evaluating those regulations with modern designs in mind is essential for nuclear to become safer and far more efficient (think 98% less waste, and what's left is short-lived rather than long-lived fission products).

the result will be random due to apathy, not so much participation. you only need a million or so to get well above the noise floor considering the election will usually only go one of 2 ways.

when people are forced to vote, they do stupid things like the "donkey vote" where you just number your ballot "1,2,3,4" with no regard to who or what you're voting for.

if your employer has all it's eggs in one basket, then they deserve to lose that basket in a yellow, gooey stomp-fest led by you.

fear of sleeping will give you a healthy dose of PTSD, and jeopardise your ability to do any other job.

i had a job where i was the vital cog at several points, my boss was a psychopath bitch who mismanaged and blamed anyone but herself (mainly me), and when i finally got out of there it took me nearly 6 months to get back to decent productivity. i still flinch when a supervisor glances over at me, and i consider myself a normal person.

that said, the place i left is in such dire straits that i laugh whenever i hear of it, and feel really sad for my colleagues who didn't manage to get out of there. the owners of that company will never retire and will die poor, miserable and disillusioned. and it'll be their fault.

it's compounded by the prevailing work ethic of "i'm the only fucker here who can get it done". people take their tasks as personal milestones, and don't step back and say "if this doesn't get finished tonight, it's not my fault. it is my boss/client/whoever's organising this' fault".

of course, if you work for yourself and end up with an impossible deadline for an important client, suck it up and try not to promise so much next time, or try to say "no, that's not possible at this point, and certainly not without extra payment".

if the client threatens to ge elsewhere, call their bluff. nobody is going to take a job for a demanding fucker at the eleventh hour when they've already got a full plate. the client will make some calls, then come back to you with more reasonable terms. and if they don't, it's win-win.

the bands are irrelevant... it's not like many pop stars get rich.

they do one album, all the costs come out of their cut of the sales, then they're never heard from again. the bands split up, maybe some of the members make it bigger with something else, but usually they just go back to normal jobs and doing pub gigs.

happened to a friend of mine. his band's tunes were all over the radio, TV, etc, he toured with some massive acts, yet all through it he was using his mate's phones because he couldn't afford phone credit. he's working as a kitchen hand in a pub now, doing music on the side, just like where he was when he started.

i wonder how nickelback will be doing in a couple of years? how are they doing now? i haven't heard much out of them in a while.
