  1. Alien contact? on Myths Help Geologists Understand Modern Threats · · Score: 5, Funny

I look forward to finding out that the Greek Gods were aliens with advanced Quantum Technology (read Ilium by Dan Simmons for that interesting diversion) Actually, isn't there a Star Trek ep based off this?

  2. "No Fear Shakespeare" on Literature Teeters on the Edge of a 'Gr8 Fall' · · Score: 1

A while back, I saw something in the local Barnes & Nobles called 'No Fear Shakespease' where an original play is "translated" for modern day nitwits to understand. Example passage (taken from SparkNotes site) To be, or not to be? That is the question-- Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And, by opposing, end them? To die, to sleep-- No more--and by a sleep to say we end The heartache and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to--'tis a consummation Devoutly to be wished! translates to.... The question is: is it better to be alive or dead? Is it nobler to put up with all the nasty things that luck throws your way, or to fight against all those troubles by simply putting an end to them once and for all? Dying, sleeping--that's all dying is--a sleep that ends all the heartache and shocks that life on earth gives us--that's an achievement to wish for. *shudder* Never mind that the passage is castrated of any aesthetic value, the big problem in my mind is that challenging literature like Shakespeare should be, you know, challenging. Make some effort to actually read it instead of demanding that the great works of literature be dumbed down to your level.

The real reason OpenSource will never try and make a good iPod is because there's no evil MS on the other side to motivate them. Oh we can't possibly say anything bad about Apple! Oh, I had an anti-Apple thought, woe is me! Fools

  4. Re:Controller limitation on Plotting the Revolution's Arc · · Score: 1

The problem isn't just movement, its input. If a fighter has several kinds of attack from one position, how will you input in those commands?

  5. Re:Controller limitation on Plotting the Revolution's Arc · · Score: 1

Maybe they'll be attachments for your limbs, and then you move them that way to fight. Or maybe we can have a real time interaction system where your limb controllers directly make contact with those of your opponent and an instananeous feedback transmits pain signals directly to your brain!

  6. Controller limitation on Plotting the Revolution's Arc · · Score: 1

The new controller design seems great for FPSes, but what about Fighters?
My favorite console game is Soul Calibur 2. Looking at the new Nintendo controller, I'm a bit confused as to how a fighter game like that would work. Many move combinations require two buttons to be pressed simultaneously. Would there be some normal-controller plug-in for that?

Ah...makes sense now. But isn't it possible that on the way back, the craft will pass closer to say, Jupiter, and get pulled in by that gravitational field?

  8. How will the probe come back? on Send your name to Pluto · · Score: 1

I'm slightly confused, will the probe be orbiting around the Kuiper belt for a while and eventually make its way back to earth or will it return on its own power?

...PLEASE stop abusing the phrase "Begs the question."
Wrong: This simply begs the question of what use IQ tests are if they don't predict anything in the real world."

Question begging when you have an argument that uses circular reasoning. For example:
God exists because the Bible says He does.
The Bible is right because God wrote it.
    Therefore, God exists.
