Just as I feared, programmers are now accountable for the uses of their software. This of course has some major implications...for example, if the 'ping' utility were to be written today, the author could be accountable for including the "-f" switch, which of course floods a circuit with ICMP traffic...DoS tool anyone?
What no one seems to realize is that UN*X is a prime example of evoloution brought to an OS. Everytime a new need arises, someone (or a group of someones) ports that technology, thought, or otherwise function to UN*X. It is truly an adaptive OS that IMHO has never been rivaled. Let's not forget NTv.4 was supposed to be the UN*X killer. Even with Win2k now released, UN*X is still alive and kicking ascii.
After reading this "review" I can't help but wonder if this guy had used any laptop made in the past 5 years. His amazement with the hotswapable bay is silly, as this is nothing new. In fact, I wouldn't even consider this a geek review. Just some guy with a new laptop on a plane. And to top it off...no mention of the laptop running alternative OS's...that's the first thing I would have done.
This is simply a case of a large business attempting to control and influence a smaller company. Nevermind the fact that etoy was an established site *years* before etoys. Argh. I'm getting sicker and sicker of this capitalistic bullshit. "i'm afraid of americans"-david bowie.
The town I live in (Springfield MA) is also attempting to pull in young techs. They've set up cheap "incubators" for tech. startups within the city, basicly a 3 year plan for offices within the city with free legal and business assistance. It's good to see the cities making an effort to attract the next business revolution, even if it's just to collect more taxes from that hot startup that just made a crazy IPO.:)
Probably not. The news.com article mentions that he payed with his credit card, and since you can usually pay someone else's bill on their behalf with your own money, he essentialy gave MS $35...no change in ownership required.
I'll just setup an OPENNAP server and avoid such sillyness. When will all the corps. learn that they just can't "buy" a solution?

Ummm...whatever happened to firewire? Better standard...
I hope /. keeps this up all day. It's about time they and everyone just lighten up a litle.

Often I find myself amazed at the lack of good judgement found throughout the world.

I remember many lost days playing classic on my Mac Plus. I can't wait to install this on my Palm IIIx. Wonder if I can import my old scenarios...
