  1. Re:Space Key on New Keyboard Has Just 53 Keys · · Score: 1

I would be willing to bet that one could loose their thumbs and type just as fast on a standard keyboard. I switched to a Kinesis Advantage keyboard and found that my thumbs are actually usefull when typing. If people are looking for an improvement in functionality I strongly recomend it. Having the space, enter,pg up, pg dn, and ctrl under my right thumb and the backspace, del, home, end, and alt under my left has increased my productivity by at least 5-10%. -No I do not have any ties to Kinesis other then I have given them a couple hundred dollars for a keyboard.

To play the devils advocate... One could count the DOD as an organization that has a monopoly on government attention. Especially now that it has been authorized to spy upon American Citizens. Politicians seam incredibly unwilling to question the defense department.... I wonder why?

  3. It is all a rip off. on Digital Music Stock Market? · · Score: 1

I am still waiting for the cost of CD's to become cheaper then tapes like the Recording industry promised. Now it is more expensive to buy the songs individually without any media...... WTF??? It does not cost any more to pick up a guitar now then it did back when I bought tapes; and I am supposed to pay up to 5 times as much to get the right to listen to the same music. Yah Right!!! P.S I would not be so pissed if my money went to the bands. Instead it goes into talent-less corporate executive's pockets..

  4. Re:FP: What a great idea! on FCC Report Supports a la Carte TV Pricing · · Score: 1

I disagree. Currently Nielsen polls people to find out what they watch. There has been a lot of press in the past couple years about how certain subsections of the population are being underserved by the current ratings scheme. I think allowing people to actually pick and choose what channels get funded it would quickly sort out the junk. I think you would be surprised to find out how many people would subscribe to the under represented channels that actually have quality content. I The only thing better would be allowing me to subscribe directly to individual programs. VOD for cable TV should be the future. P.S I have been happily watching broadcast TV for the last 9 months and the only thing I really miss is the Daily Show. I would happily pay $5 a month for that one show but I refuse to pay $50

  5. What about authentication on The Yellow Machine in Review · · Score: 2, Insightful

  6. What good is a hard drive that is not reliable. on Notebook Hard Drive Roundup · · Score: 2, Insightful

The one thing this review is lacking is a durability study. As someone who has been repairing laptops for the past 10 years the hard drive is the weakest link(unless you count the battery). As long as people are screaming about I/O per second or data transfer rates we are not likely to see that change. Reviews such as this are shameful in that they leave out the most important metric.

  8. Re:only winner on The Math Behind the Hybrid Hype · · Score: 1

As an individual concerned about the environment I have one question about the comment about the environment being the only winner. Does anyone have a study to prove the environmental benefits? That is to say. How many pollutants are created in the manufacturing and disposal of the batteries? What about Ozone pollution caused by the running of the electric motors? Over the life of a hybrid vehicle does it actually produce less pollution then a normal car of the same size?

  9. Give the INDIs DRM. on Music Exec Fires Back At Apple CEO · · Score: 1

For all the bitching out there it seams there are very few who are doing something about it. Until the artists come together and produce a distribution solution to compete with I-Tunes you will still have large companies dictating behavior. The closest thing I have seen is CDbaby but even then you have a centralized distribution point relying upon outdated media. Somebody please hand the independent artists an open source DRM solution that is easy to manage. As I-Tunes proves DRM does not even need to be that secure to keep the general population from redistributing the songs. Once there is a free semi secure method of distributing songs the only thing musicians will need large media companies for is advertising (honestly anyone with $5-10K can start their own personal studio).
