  1. Re:Not a big concern. on Newspapers Reconsidering Google News · · Score: 1

As a current journalist working as a "converter" of broadcast news to online news, I can assure you that most reporters/producers don't particularly enjoy pasting AP/Reuters/APF wire stories with different headlines. The root of the problem is that most mainstream media outlets don't put enough into their online counterparts. As one of only 2 people posting stories onto a broadcast news station's website, it's very difficult to put forth the effort on Lindsey Lohan's latest car crash when you can spend more time on a compelling local story. It's getting better though. The problem is that people will turn to news aggregators before the problem fixes itself, I fear.

  2. Re:NOT for warfare, just a misunderstood sentence. on Microcups Made of Nanopaper · · Score: 1

From TFA: University of Arkansas researchers have created assemblies of nanowires that show potential in applications such as armor, flame-retardant fabric, bacteria filters, oil cracking, controlled drug release, decomposition of pollutants and chemical warfare agents.

Unfortunately, according to the AP style rules (which any public release that someone is getting paid to produce should be following), "the decomposition of pollutants and chemical warfare agents" would be two seperate items. Even if you ignored the style rules, it's basic grammar that the last item in a list of items is preceeded by the word 'and'. If they were indeed both one item, it would read more like:

University of Arkansas researchers have created assemblies of nanowires that show potential in applications such as armor, flame-retardant fabric, bacteria filters, oil cracking, controlled drug release and the decomposition of pollutants and chemical warfare agents.

Regardless it is a poor word choice and could use some official clarification.

  3. Re:Don't they ban for that??? on Burning Crusade Impressions Roundup · · Score: 1

I believe that the reason people were getting banned on the current game world is because the game was not designed with a free z-axis movement in mind. The art design of the environments use several tricks to reduce load times and give the player that "loadless" world. The new expansion world was designed with z-axis movement in mind, which is why they are able to do this and players should not have any fear of being banned for exploring. From what I understand, there will not be as many "off-limits" areas in the Outlands as there were on Azeroth. Watch the video here that explains it all.
