High Definition TV != Digital TV mandated throughout the US although it becomes possible to transmit DHTV over the air when the switch is made. This too is often a common misunderstanding.

I'm not sure what exactly you're saying here. It is already possible to transmit digital and HD content (HD content is digital, incidentally). For example, in Chicago anyway, my Dad has been picking up HD (as well as SD) over the air since he got his HD TV set, a year or two ago.

So I'm curious... do you really believe the primary usage of bittorrent is for legal purposes? Or are you just playing devil's advocate?

I've used bittorrent myself to download Linux ISOs... but I'm under no delusions as to what most people use it for.

Without having any stats either way, it seems like a pretty reasonable assumption.

Sure, everyone on slashdot has downloaded Linux ISOs, but most of them have probably also downloaded some illegal content. And slashdot users make up a small percentage of the global population. Most of the people who aren't on slashdot will not be downloading Linux ISOs.

You don't weigh any less in water, but someone "picking you up" or "carrying" you while in water is aided by the fact that people are buoyant. I can guarantee that a 400lb metal box is not buoyant in the slightest.

The buoyant force comes from the displacement of water. So depending on its size, it could in fact float. I suggest you examine some of todays ships, which are metal boxes, and weigh significantly more than a measly 400 lbs.

Now, this box probably isn't large enough to float, but it will exhibit some degree of buoyancy.

The GP using words as the community uses them does not demonstrate a lack of 'solid grasp', it just means that they are able to converse in language everyone understands.

Well, the initiator would be the one "downloading" (i.e., receiving) the data, consequently the other person is "uploading." The one with the data does not initiate the the transfer.
