Even if Napster is shot down and Gnutella is too slow to use, mp3s will continue to be traded on the net regardless. Mp3s have been traded on the net for as long as they've been in popular use.

It's funny to see them getting all hot and bothered over other people figuring out ways to make money from music. How can they claim mp3 companies are stealing business when for years they refused to even consider offering something similar? They've certainly had the opportunity.

Thats good to hear. It's the same way with Rurouni Kenshin--the tv series is dubbed by different people than the OVAs. (Tip: avoid Anime Works like the plague! I'm not sure if the subtitler even speaks Japanese!) The series dub (and sub) is horrible, but ADV did a good job with the OVAs.

No, it's not out of elitism that I say this--I have just never seen a dub that was half as good as the original. And many I have seen border on the unbearable. But I also hate dubs because it simply irks me to watch a show that has been modified from the original format. I hate hacked up network premiers of movies for the same reason. This is simply a personal preference of mine, but I don't think it's very unreasonable.

Is the Tenchi Muyo OVA you mention dubbed by the same people who did the series?

When Windows does decide to act up, though, you're screwed. I would have to replace my BIOS in order for Windows to run properly, but Linux has no problem.

No, it definately is not. I've heard that the original Japanese version is halfway decent, but I certainly can't tell that from the dubbed version.

This is not news. Dubs are always bad. I've never seen a dub that I'd rather watch over the subtitled version, and I've seen some pretty bad subs too. The problem is, those bastards at Funimation don't give you a choice--there is no subtitled version available. Which is too bad, since it means I'm not going to be able to watch it--and I was at one point mildly interested in it. Maybe I can find the manga somewhere.

Face it, using Napster to download MP3's is illegal and immoral

Illegal perhaps, but immoral? How can you justify making such sweeping statements? Whether or not it is immoral all depends on intent. When you download a song, are you doing so to try it out before you buy the CD or are you just trying to get a free ride? The former, while illegal, isn't in any way immoral while the latter is. Also, what about those who download mp3s when they already own the CD, to save the time of ripping it themselves? Again, technically illegal but in no way immoral or wrong.

Leave it to the MPAA to think up a business model based on suing their own customers ;)

It would be much more sensible if they adopted a system similar to how Anime is treated. If there are no licensed distributors of an anime show in a given country, fansubs are basically given free reign to subtitle and distribute shows in those countries. But when an official distributor buys the rights, they hve to stop. This would still suck, but would be a hell of a lot better.

Then again, the MPAA has been acused of many things in the past but being sensible will never be one of them.
