The CEO is going to die anyway.;-) I'm curious though, when do you think killing is acceptable? If you lived under Saddam Hussein, *then* would you be willing to pick-up a gun and eliminate him?
Or would you still tolerate being treated like dirt.
You talk to the Universal or Sony Music salesman that visits your store once a month, and ask for permission to sell MP3s at your store. They supply the files, and you supply the sales outlet. Remember to stress that having shoppers in the store will also encourage people to buy "hard goods" like CDs, posters, headphones, and so on, and therefore it's a worthwhile method of distribution to pursue.
Don't just roll-over and say, "Woe is me, CD sales are down." Fight back. Adjust to the changing market and offer Singles to your customers, because that's what they are demanding.
>>>"Actually he was the founder of the Republican Party - or the precursor to the Republican Party"
Um, no. The Republicans renamed themselves the Republican-Democrats and later the Democrats. And so the Democratic Party dates back to Thomas Jefferson as their founder (although their modern platform seems more based-upon Karl Marx).
The Republican Party were not born until the 1850s. Their first president was Abraham Lincoln (with a modern-day platform closer to Jefferson's ideals, but still not identical).
>>>"Beta and Minidisc were used in the professional industry"
False. Well, half-false. I don't know much about minidisc, but I do know the pros did NOT use the Betamax standard. They used the Betacam standard with component video recording that produced a higher-resolution image. (Today the pros use Digital Betacam.)
Correct. Blu-ray is a *group*, similar to how DVD/HD DVD is part of a group, not just one company.
Also:
Show me ANY company that has not tried to introduce proprietary standards. Wii/Gamecube is owned by Nintendo. Compact Disc is a Philips-owned property; ditto the ubiquitous audio cassette. VHS is owned by JVC/Matsushita. It's rare to find a format that is "public domain" for everybody to use. Nearly all formats are owned by some company.
Ha ha.;-) Well I drive a car with only 3 pistons (honda insight). That configuration is rare in the States, but pretty common in the European Union (like the VW Lupo or Polo). The advantage of a 3-piston engine is almost-equal power to 4-bangers, but less rotatin mass to achieve better gasoline/diesel efficiency. In other words, it helps the consumer save money.
So for me "driving" a 3-core computer would feel pretty normal.
I hope somebody ports Final Fantasy 7 to the N64 someday (even if it's just a ROM for an N64 emulator). That oughtta be cool seeing how well it translates w/o CD technology.
I imagine it would be somewhat similar to the Resident Evil 2 port.
For us the Atari console versions are the "true" versions that bring back all the nostalgia. For example, I think the arcade version of Missile Command sucks (too many buttons), but the Atari console version is fantastic to play.
Atari was stupid. There were 25 million consoles sold. They published 30 million E.T. cartridges. Hmmm. Obviously they are going to have to toss some in the trash.
That said, I enjoyed E.T. back when I was a kid. Yes it was challenging but once you learned to avoid the pits, it was a very well-done game..... reminded me of Adventure where you try to find all the missing pieces.
The Atari 2600 version is essentially the same as the Atari computer version. It's a static screen & every now and then an icon (representing a ship) pops up in front of you. The secondary screen is your galactic map, which is also a static display. Not really complicated at all.
It wasn't the first 3D flight sim created for the Atari console; there was an earlier one created in 1978 where you blew-up asteroids coming towards you.
People say that stuff, but I've never agreed. An Atari connected to a real television suffers from dot-crawl, color blur, and RF interference from neighboring channel 2/3 stations.
The two worst evils. Democracy == tyranny of the majority to squash the minority underfoot & treat those persons like dirt.
Socialism == theft of money from your neighbors' wallets so you can enrich yourself with free goods (somewhat akin to U.S. Slavery wherein the blacks' labor was stolen to enrich the white master).
I think he was mainly talking about the REAL power inside corporations, i.e. CEOs and their direct servants, not the middle managers who are basically just employees following what they've been told to do.
Also:
The same principle applies to government. Government tends to attract those filled with avarice and ambition (love of money and love of power). i.e. Politicians are the worst of humanity, not the best.
>>>"EBay routinely says 'we're just a facilitator'"
Ebay can no longer claim that "just a venue" distinction, because now Ebay is seeking to punish sellers with low feedback (i.e. 4.3 out of 5, or lower). They are now taking an active part in the transactions.
As for Paypal, they already got slapped once. I got a $40 check out of that class-action lawsuit; perhaps I will soon be getting another one in a future lawsuit.
Once again, the moderators have done a piss-poor job. My post was not flamebait, and should not have been modded as such. It was an OPINION, and last time I checked, that's not an illegal act either.
I think California had the right idea with their EV Mandate. Electricity is a practical solution that is here NOW, not some future time which may or may not ever arrive.
And over time, we could transition to nanoscale solar cells on top of people's roofs so they can charge their cars.
Here's a quick way to reduce consumer consumption by one-third:
- Get everyone to drive 88 mpg VW Lupo 3L's. There's enough room to carry a family of 3, plus groceries or soccer equipment. (Or a 70mpg Honda Insight; perfect commuter vehicle.)
But no, instead people keep driving their 20mpg Ford Living Rooms.
>>>"Made public this week, these e-mails reveal the behind-the-scenes deliberations over the "Windows Vista Capable" designation, suggesting that Microsoft lowered the standards for that classification to appease Intel,"
My brother was screwed by this.
I told him: "Don't buy a Vista machine; buy XP." "Don't buy a Vista machine; buy XP." "Don't buy a Vista machine; buy XP." Per usual he did not listen and bought Vista claiming it's the latest & greatest therefore it HAS to be good. (rolls eyes). Well it isn't good; he was just brainwashed by the commercials.
It's one of those Vista Capable machine which means it runs on only 500 megabytes and is s-l-o-w to do anything (even opening a folder takes a minute). It actually runs slower than the 5-year-old PC in the basement, but then that PC has XP so of course it's better.
Microsoft should be sued. They shouldn't claim a 500 meg machine can run Vista when the software is running slower than an old 80s PC.

Incorrect. Sony already achieved success with:
Betacam (professionals)
Compact Disc
3.5" floppy
DVD (Sony is a founding member of the consortium which developed the format)

The Atari console never had M.U.L.E. on it. That is why I did not list it.

Some of us NEVER visited the arcades.

Because I thought they were dull. Pitfall 2 was fun for about one week, but after I beat it, it just collected dust.
I prefer games that I can play again-and-again.

I have $15 DSL at home.
But when stuck in a hotel (a weekly event), I use their phone line because it's all they have.
People say that stuff, but I've never agreed. An Atari connected to a real television suffers from dot-crawl, color blur, and RF interference from neighboring channel 2/3 stations.
An emulator suffers none of those flaws.

Try visiting the shabby motels in Teterboro New Jersey.
They have bars on their windows and rent their rooms by the hour.

Nobody's forcing CNN to put pentagon-briefed persons on the tube.
If CNN was doing its duty, they'd hire reporters that are independent from the pentagon.
