I've always found iOS much more of a pain to navigate, because of the lack of the "back" button. I mean it's not like it's even a new idea - everyone uses one already in their web browsers.
I don't see how the apps list vs desktop is any different to having a desktop plus a start menu (plus a quick launch bar).. maybe it would be confusing for someone that's come from iOS, or hasn't taken a few minutes to explore their device or read a quickstart guide.
Why is everyone talking like there even is a problem? In August Android had almost 80% of the market. Yeah, it must be incredibly boring and horrible to use if so many people want it.
Then you can have your credit card details and other personal info stolen. ID theft really can ruin your life if you're not taking adequate precautions.
Really, its the fear mongers who should consider giving up their religion and walking outside, its far safer than you think.
That's fair enough, since most people don't actually want to resort to violence. But, I still prefer knowing that any idiots around here are going to have to catch me if they want to do serious damage. Sure they could build a mini-crossbow or something, but I guess the type of folks doing fun projects like that usually have more interesting things to do than kill people..
I didn't say anything about not being "permitted" to fight back. I implied that it's a really dumb thing to do, unless you know your life is in danger. The vast majority of thieves are just looking to steal things, not murder anyone. There are some real psychopaths out there for sure, but having a gun isn't going to save you from them, because they don't even give you an ultimatum. They'll kill you just for fun, here in the UK too. There is a sickening CCTV video of a couple of guys being stabbed on their way home at night, with no provocation. I still would prefer that these psychopaths used knives rather than having such easy access to guns.
"Dominated"? You might want to use something other than language you picked up in an FPS when there are no respawns.
Yes, it can "spoil the whole thing", but there would be a lot less "things" if guns were harder to come by. I'm sure this argument has been played out hundreds of thousands of times online by now though, and those who worship guns aren't going to give up their god anytime soon.
Clearly both this womanâ(TM)s life and her husbandâ(TM)s life were saved by her carrying a concealed weapon
Bullshit.. that's not clear in the slightest. It only talks about a robbery and some guys talking rough - not attempted murder. The worst that would have happened was someone getting away with their car and wallets. I wonder how much the gun, training and license even cost compared to their potential losses and insurance claim.
I think you'd find that the ones who deserve it are mostly the ones with the guns. Everyone else is too busy thinking about getting on with their life to consider violent crime.
Considering a lot of these guys commit suicide after they're done, what makes you think that their victims being armed or not is a particularly big concern?
Please, tell us how much more special you are, AC. The majority of people like to "make pretend" every so often that they don't live in boring, overly protective/prescriptive western society.
the USB connector for Android phones is particularly flimsy
There is no "USB connector for Android phones". Some use micro-USB standard, some the mini-USB standard. A very few use proprietary connectors. It's not the connector design that is even the problem, it depends on the implementation. Some devices have USB ports that fit very snuggly and securely (for example the mini-USB ports on PS3 controllers), others are atrocious.
At age 75 I will NOT allow anyone to update my computer without my express permission.
What does age have to do with keeping your software up to date? You're actually just increasing the chances that your computer will get owned if you leave security updates on a manual update schedule.
I'd assume that they're building general purpose hardware for running large neural networks into the chips. Usually you'd set a goal for the network, and then "train" it, reinforcing the pathways that lead to successful outcomes. The theory is based on how our own brains learn, and can be very effective at solving certain problems "naturally", rather than the programming having to come up with an effective algorithmic solution.
Well, I have been more arguing about what I think is the most effective way to redistribute wealth. The point is that I really don't care what it says in the bible when trying to think of practical solutions for helping people out. But I did say that in fact if you take the message as being to actually helping the poor, rather than being about trying to earn personal XBox points from god, then having some system in place to help out those lesser fortunate is a good thing.
There obviously aren't enough legitimate jobs to support everyone or there wouldn't be so much unemployment. I don't care if the government takes up the slack - I think it's a good thing. Especially in the US, there is an insane amount of money being thrown into the military for example, that could be used to provide a great quality of life for everyone in your country. I'm not saying stop all military operations, but it's kinda obvious that a lot of what your military has been doing recently wasn't actually necessarily beneficial to your country. Now, maybe on a world scale it was a good thing, but I think if a country can't sort its own shit out, then it should focus on that before trying to "help" others into the same system.
I'm not really going to argue about what the Christian way is or should be. I now just think of that as theological nonsense that is blinding you from looking at things pragmatically. Think about the actual concept of helping people beyond the ones that you might meet on a day to day basis. You're still arguing that it's more important to make up points to get a cookie from god than it is to actually find the most effective way to help everyone. That may be what the bible is advocating, but in today's world, there are better ways to do it (even though back then taxes also helped out society quite a lot, so things like national healthcare are really just an iteration of that rather than a radically new concept).
It's of course lovely of you to try and make a difference in a few people's lives though. Kudos if you're doing that genuinely and not for brownie points with your god.
So now you are actually saying that welfare is damaging, without giving evidence.
I get that those passages aren't talking about taxes etc, but they suggest that any Christian should be voting for increasing taxes on the rich to give more to the poor. Because - like it or not - a lot of people aren't going to give anything away unless you force it from them. Taxes do much more good than religious organisations. You can do your random acts of kindness on top if you want, but you'd have a much more positive effect on the poor by doing things like supporting a national health service, unemployment benefits, and having harsh taxes on having more than two kids. The world is just going to become more increasingly automated, and there are going to be a lot less "full time" jobs. Considering that "full time" and the length of a "working week", etc, is just some bullshit that we made up, things need to change.. the world needs to change.
They abuse women, have a cave man's idea of a criminal justice system, are a theocracy and fund terrorism. What else do they need to do before we decide to stop tolerating their shit?
You did not show any christian teachings on government welfare though. You showed the personal obligations within the christian teachings. Yiu can't be assed to learn anyrhing about it so perhaps you shouldn't pretend to know about it.
Hmm yeah, because going to church, study groups, etc, etc 2-3 times a week for 20 years means I didn't learn anything. I "learned" plenty, but I consider most of it a load of horse shit now, and it's not worth the time debating what it really "means". I posted him some relevant passages, and they show that generally the Christian idea is to redistribute wealth. Anyway the bible doesn't even suggest that there's anything wrong with doing that in a more organised fashion. As I said, that would be more beneficial to the poor than random acts of kindness. So unless your goal is just to make yourself seem pious, taxes and social welfare programs are a good baseline. You can then do other random acts of kindness if you wish.
It fits in pretty damn well with the teachings, unless you already have weird American "anti-commie" ideas drilled into your brain.
I don't actually have any "guilt" about how the world works. If you'd rather we not "force" people to pay for services like the police, fire service, medical aid, sanitation, etc, then perhaps you should go and live in Mongolia or something. It's just a good way of doing things. It benefits everybody. Those who are paying higher levels of tax don't actually need all that money. There are people who literally need help from others though, and there's no way of doing that fairly if only random religious people are doing it. For one thing, anyone with the time to spend helping the poor regularly either wouldn't have any money because they don't have a job, or alternatively they'd have to spend all their spare time helping the poor rather than interacting with their family, yada yada. To me that's kind of like manually pumping the gas from your fuel tank to your engine. It's a waste of time.
I've no idea what the "War on Labor" is tbh. I'd imagine prisons in the US aren't that fun. Scandinavian prisons on the other hand, sound like a good deal.
I've always found iOS much more of a pain to navigate, because of the lack of the "back" button. I mean it's not like it's even a new idea - everyone uses one already in their web browsers.

Yep, because the "the deadliest non-school shooting rampage in American history" didn't occur in Texas.
Considering a lot of these guys commit suicide after they're done, what makes you think that their victims being armed or not is a particularly big concern?
Please, tell us how much more special you are, AC. The majority of people like to "make pretend" every so often that they don't live in boring, overly protective/prescriptive western society.
cellphone ram is no longer expandable
When was it ever?

Security updates are the closest you're going to get to a "life saving feature" on a computer, so.. yes.
That's like refusing to get a fault in your airbag fixed just because it's YOUR car, stop trying to CONTROL me you evil bastards!
At age 75 I will NOT allow anyone to update my computer without my express permission.

Keep up the good work

Best post on groupthink I've seen for a while. I think I'm going to save this somewhere.
Haha. Or maybe you're too stupid to notice how your country is actually working, rather than how it's intended to work.
Well, I have been more arguing about what I think is the most effective way to redistribute wealth. Just one? Okay.
