I hope it's butterscotch.. if only my imagination were as powerful as yours I could make it so!
There can only be one one - though one squared is still one, and 1 ^ 50,000 is still one, so I think we'll be okay, somehow. The geek fight is a good idea though. My weapon of choice is an Amiga A1000, maye with a 21" CRT for backup (only really good for when you're above your opponent of course)
Yeah, if you're into necrophilia *cough*:P I do like that goth style. I've been accused of hitting on old ladies while high on caffeine too, but I was just trying to be friendly. >_>
This is debatable. Visual Studio is the only product on that list that is inextricably tied to windows. Utter bollocks. Visual Studio is a development environment that could be recompiled to work for any OS as long as it had appropriate components and libraries added to it for GUI work and such. Active Directory is heavily tried to Windows, it almost *is* Windows, because all the information it stores is specific to Windows clients. Admittedly it doesn't do much that any LDAP server couldn't do (AFAIK, there probably are some important extras but it's been a while since I looked into alternatives to using Active Directory), but all the information in it is all just about Windows clients, Windows domain policies, Windows computers.. even if you for some insane reason ported Active Directory to another OS, your clients would all still have to be Windows clients (or clients using SAMBA, but it's still Windows 'standards'). Exchange is heavily integrated with Active Directory, which obviously makes it a very Windows oriented product. I don't see how you think that it would be more difficult to port Visual Studio to another OS. You don't seem to have any idea about how software works, or is developed? So perhaps you'd be better not to try to talk about it (again, that's slightly hypocritical because I get in on discussions I know nothing about sometimes, but hey;) I like to learn )
It's because he likes to see lots of developers. Developers, developers, developers! Look over here! Developers! Developers, developers! *monkey skipping around the building* Developers!!:)
Yes, twitter is a jerk who just seems to troll for fun (either that or he has some serious mental problems or anger issues, sadly). Lots of people on/. think MS make rubbish software and we'd be better off without them - no matter what 'good' they have done for the industry as a whole in the past by making it possible to use cheap cobbled together hardware or whatever other argument you use to defend them.
Your tone is extremely patronising and arrogant by the way. The GP was just giving a response to something you said. Something which had nothing to do with Ballmer, but then you complain that he isn't talking about Ballmer as if you are scolding a child. Then he gives his honest personal opinion of MS - twitter always speaks his opinion as if it is fact. Some of the things twitter says are in fact true, but his abrasive manner does nothing to help him. You would do well to consider your own attitude when presenting your own opinions. I feel a bit hypocritical saying that, because sometimes I can get pretty petty, but I'm trying to keep a reign on it. I just felt I should point out that you are coming across as a jerk.
MS is under threat from all directions (linux, apple, google, adobe, sony, ibm,...) That is one of the most sad things of all. If they played nicer with other companies then they could see these other companies as partners (since most make sofware for Windows, even though some of the same make alternative OSes). MS should get its core markets sorted out before rushing out and trying to compete with the likes of Adobe and Google. They were almost there, before Vista and Office 2007 came along:P Not that we've had many issues with 2007, but it does screw up the user's Exchange account on our Exchange 2003 server when you first use it.. poor show.
What exactly would MS/Yahoo offer that nobody else does? I know yahoo from yahoo groups and yahoo games, but I've never really used any of their other services, and there are plenty of other places for groups/games/search/news/email/whatever?
How long will it be before Google are in a position to do a hostile takeover of MS and kick their shit into shape?
So what's the new word for someone who writes quick and dirty code that actualy runs, or changes a transistor radio into a guitar fuzzbox? I vote we call them all "The One". Let's see them bastardise that!
I don't know about you, but I can type even when I can't see the keyboard. And as the other respondent pointed oot, the external screen is meant more for read-only stuff, reading your emails, checking cinema times and whatnot.
I've seen a few of the trailers, don't remember any ninjas *shrug*:P just Christina Ricci and some bouncing cars.. quite the wet dream material.. everything else was immaterial
First, she's a girl so she probably has pretty small hands anyway - second, she could just get an external keyboard anyway if that's a real issue? Kind of ruins the whole portability aspect though.
I think Vista already does stuff like that. By the way, if you have to fuck your keyboard to get it to work then it's probably broken. Bodily fluids aren't good for electronics equipment either.
I got Robotech, and it was pretty rubbish compared to all other mecha-anime, because (apparently) it's a mish-mash of several different series bastardised to create a completely new story. That's a semi impressive accomplishment, but I probably would have just preferred the originals. Even Transformers is better than Robotech:P Though the too-close-up camera views in the recent movie totally ruined it for me (oh, the 'get me a screwdriver so I can take apart that monitor to make something that generates an electric pulse' made me pretty sick too)
Racing at those speeds develops your neck muscles at least. Using your arms and legs to drive all day does too. He'd have well trained reactions from racing, although admittedly they wouldn't be related to the reactions you need for fighting. Thanks for spoiling the end though.
I didn't even know it was a cartoon until this article, and I thought the trailer looked fairly dire, but I'd read a short article about it online saying that it was intended to be OTT/camp, and so I'm just going to watch it with an open mind. The Wachowski brothers don't have the besterest of track records, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt for this one.
All the anime featuring mecha/cars/bikes that I've seen has much more realistic physics than that of Speed Racer.. thinking of the cars in Ghost in the Shell, and the bikes in Akira for example. Speed Racer seems to be of the "I can drift around a hairpin bend sideways all the way" school, what I call the Ridge Racer philosophy. The latest version of Ridge Racer on the PS3 is tooooo arcadey in that way, so I'm just not going to get it. I got some of the originals for their nice graphics, and they did have slightly more realistic drifting.. I'm still going to watch Speed Racer though, you are almost right that a gripping story and such can save a movie sometimes if you can forget your pet hates for a little while..
He didn't quite say that. He said it might not be a piece of crap that is forgotten in a year's time. We can't exactly know until we watch it. I think Christina Ricci could be that element that "comes through to save the movie" for me =p
Uh, yeah they're making a Thundercat movie. Hopefully not Blues Clues tho:s
Racer X is his brother I hope that's not an important twist:( I didn't even know this was a remake of a cartoon. The film does look pretty crappy just because of the racing physics - looks like Ridge Racer style impossible stuff, but hey it's got Christina Ricci, and she's hawt:)
The next question is WHAT is the advance technology being used? I've heard of this too, it's called the Large Ampere Mind Buffer 2 (Superior Love And Understanding Generator Having True Enlightened Results)
No, the world ends at the end, Jesus dies about 3/4 of the way through
that's how you play!
I hope it's butterscotch.. if only my imagination were as powerful as yours I could make it so!

that would be hilarious! They could put him in charge of a division called 'Boogle' where they all dance like monkeys and play musical chairs!

The weird thing is that most people on /. would probably agree with his anti-MS sentiment if he didn't act like such an ass about it.. :p
