Spangenberg defends the validity of Jonesâ(TM) work by pointing to a failed challenge to the patent filed by TD Ameritrade in late 2010, which was rejected by the Patent and Trademark Office.
I don't know enough about the system to know if that means it went to court or simply was rejected by the USPTO itself.. but he says they spent hundreds of thousands and possibly millions on it, so that really sounds like it went to court.
You never know, perhaps inspection places already do this kind of thing manually, or even have automatic systems in place. It would be a bad idea to make it well known though, otherwise there would also be a healthy industry in Twitter misinformation to kill competitors.. and again, maybe there already are such services in place. I don't really get involved in Twitter myself, but these kind of uses make it sound almost interesting.
Uhm.. well I'm guessing it must be a forum about manga/anime, but as someone with more than a passing interest in anime, I still have no idea wtf you're talking about. And after Googling it, it doesn't look like one that I'd watch since I'm not that interested in boxing.. so yeah. Maybe you should choose something that any human could answer, rather than get so specific? Very few people are interested in every single manga/anime out there, considering that a lot of them have very different target audiences.
What the hell? Just how desperate are you? Sex is nice and all, but personally I find it more of a nice bonus when in a serious relationship, rather than something that's worth getting a life ruining disease over just for a bit of fun with some skank.
No, my point was that your reply made it sounds like you misread his message. But yes he was also wrong in thinking that this could power a defibrillator, even internally.
I don't mean all Slashdotters, there are a fair few fanboys around, but compared to the average Facebook or YouTube page (which feature the "average internet user" that I was talking about), Slashdotters all look like Nobel winning scientists. The posters here are certainly more sceptical and informed than more than 99.999% of the discussions on YouTube.
Your open ended questioning stuff makes you sound like a shill, too. Though Slashdot is already pretty anti-Facebook, and any remaining users that are also on Facebook will make up a tiny percentage of actual FB users. Plus, Slashdotters aren't exactly as easily led as your average internet user. So yeah, the whole idea of trying to imply Facebook is dying would be rather wasted here.
And to answer the open ended question - no Facebook isn't headed off a cliff quite yet, because there is nothing better yet which does all of what FB does. There are individual services which do some things better - but there always have been. And for whatever it's worth: I never got into MySpace at all, but I do use Facebook regularly.
EVE has a cool universe, but the point and click flight mechanics are boring as hell in my opinion. I purchased a joystick a few months ago and tried out some space and flight sims. EVE was a huge disappointment.
He's not an idiot. Sounds like he was considering an MMO before WOW and EVE existed.
"I was very wary that we would be trailblazing and one of the ways we were planning to do it was to put a piece of hardware in every single phone exchange, so it was a much wider plan to achieve the very short ping times that you need to play the game we wanted to do. So we put that essentially on indefinite hold at that point because I knew it wasn't going to work well. And I'd rather not do it, than do something that didn't work well."
I saw through all the buzzword shit when I was a teenager. I perhaps need to be a little more excited about "new" tech, but I already know I can do what I want with existing tech. Very occasionally I'll get excited about a new language or framework, but it pisses me off when job listings require X years of experience with Y. If I then try to build experience in Y, by the time I reach X years, the job will no longer be available because they'll want X years experience with Z.. and so on..
Why should it be part of the property tax? What if you don't want to even own a TV?
We have 2 TVs in our flat, but we don't watch live TV, so we don't need a license. We use the TVs for Netflix, LoveFilm, iPlayer, DVDs, consoles, etc - none of which require a TV license:)
So your solution to fixing things you dislike is to keep voting out whoever is currently in power? I don't even know what you mean by me playing "party politics" exactly, I was just saying that voting for a certain party is an extremely limited way to express your opinion on the whole range of issues that exist in any country. Voting for one of two parties accomplishes almost exactly nothing.
I don't feel an affiliation with any party in any political system (plus I don't even live in the US).
It does not make ANY GODDAMN DIFFERENCE if GNU/Linux or Ubuntu or whatever does 100% for the majority of people. The point is, why would people switch: What is the incentive?
Well, a good software centre/package manager setup that updates everything from one app (or just quietly in the background without fricking Java Update Scheduler popping up every week asking to update) is a good reason. Though I think maybe Windows 8 is going to have something like this, but it probably won't be as comprehensive as the Linux equivalents for quite a while.
Windows lets them use their computer and play their games, but a good distro like pre-Unity Ubuntu is nicer to use. Mint is carrying things on pretty well right now.
Well first off he said "gaming controllers", by which I assumed he meant game pads of the type that you typically get with consoles, which have tiny little joysticks. A full sized joystick does offer more precise control, but since a car can only steer left/right anyway, what's the benefit there? Adding acceleration/braking to the Y axis would just cause control problems. Having an R/C car type controller setup but with a large steering stick and batmobile style speed controller could work, but those are more akin to a proper expensive flight sim setup than typical gaming controllers.
You're making a massive jump to assume that religious people can't also be hackers.. being religious doesn't necessarily mean you're stupid, it just means you've been brainwashed with fairytales, often from a very young age (as I was).
High speed mobile internet could be the definition of "non critical". It's not a need. It's a luxury. And as far as I can see things have at least improved over the last 10 years here in the UK, but they're still not great obviously.
Actually the reason you won't see gaming controllers on cars is that they suck for fine control when driving. If you drive in a real simulation game, using a steering wheel and pedals is preferable, because then you get several inches of travel to adjust control, rather than just one inch. In a real car do you always press your accelerator or brake as hard as you can? Because that's how most driving games are still set up these days
If you try playing a racing game or simulator in full simulator mode with a controller you'll probably see that you end up with much worse tyre wear than with a steering wheel/pedal setup. And that's if you can even control the car well enough in the first place. If you don't have traction control or some kind of input smoothing on the controls (which actually reduces your control level) then you're going to be spinning out all over the place.

That's what she said :/
Suddenly, she's ten times smarter than any un-augmented human being.
And then she looks back on her life so far, and decides it would be best just to kill herself.

Meh, I knew you were faking it anyway
seriously, AIDs is worth it.

Haven't heard of that one - I'll add it to the list of Steam games that I've bought, but haven't had a chance to play yet! Thanks :)

Not appropriate to what? Just because it's not about the US doesn't mean it's not relevant.
We're not talking about external defibrillators. Try to keep up
Actually, that's what he was pointing out..
Why should it be part of the property tax? What if you don't want to even own a TV?

And what, exactly, do you expect that to accomplish? How will voting for the other party make your wishes on this specific topic known?
Yep I've done Windows, Linux and Windows in the last decade, and think I upgraded a Mac in the decade before.
Yep things can break sometimes.. but there are also "rolling" distros that you could use.
