Actually I think you are very very wrong. Almost all windows users I know choose windows because there are certain apps that do not run on Macs, but would MUCH rather use a computer with OS X if they could. For example, games, 3D packages such as 3DStudio Max and Softimage (as in my case) and other such windows only programs. Apple would be silly not to let Windows run on their Intel Macs as they would lose sales of all the people who would MUCH rather be using OS X but cannot because the software they make their living in is Windows only (such as myself). I know of hundreds of people personally who are in the same boat. Apple, if you allow me to dual boot into Windows, or even better run Windows in a Window, you have guarenteed a lifetime customer (and untold thousands if not millions more like me).

Apple you have got yourself a sale (and all future computer sales for life). Even better if I can run windows in a window! I really hope it is going to be possible to dual boot with no negative effects!

So you are saying a change in temp of 10 degrees C from when wax starts to melt until it is all melted is a clamp in temp?!?! Uhhh you have a different definition of clamp than I do buddy. Water ice on the other hand is a true clamp during the phase transition, as the temp stays at pretty much 0C until all the ice is melted. Wax on the other hand continues to heat up significantly during its phase transition from a solid to a liquid, sure more energy is put into the wax then the temp increase would indicate, but the temp is hardly clamped until all the wax is melted.

  7. MYTH! NOT true at all. on Want a Cool and Quiet PC? Dunk it in Oil · · Score: 1

Wax does not keep its temp constant during a phase change like water does. The temp will actually still rise during a phase change. If the temperature of the parrafin is between 45C - 55C then the paraffin is melting but the temp never stops rising as energy keeps being added. This is because wax is not crysaline, but is actually an amorphous substance. So your claim the temp. would be clamped until all the wax is melted just is not true! Sorry.

Just like they are pissed off at Tivo. It already pisses me off that I have to pay for Satellite and Cable, only to have to watch all the stupid commercials on all but the premium channels. WHY isn't cable and satellite free with all the commercials we have to watch?! I would much rather pay the people making the shows directly. iTunes will let us do just that. I for one welcome our iTunes overlords (as long as someday I can download HD content ;)).

In fact, the SpectraView 2180WG-LED is one of the rare monitors that can claim to fully cover the Adobe RGB color space, which is much more demanding than the traditional sRGB. End quote. Most CRTs cannot handle the whole Adobe RGB.... pretty good for a 6,000 lcd! LCDs that could handle that kind of range cost many 10s of thousands of dollars, and are mainly only used in the medical field. Maybe some people who live under a rock only know about the ipod because they watched a commercial... but that does not explain the people who own multiple ipods which was the point... I HIGHLY doubt the marketing is what drove this person to buy three ipods for hundreds of dollars each! People buy multiple ones because apple has positioned some of their ipods for unique uses... when you want your whole music library it is nice to have one of the full size ones... when you need absoulte portability, it is nice to have a mini or nano... some people buy both because of this. Marketing... I am getting tired of people claiming it is because of the marketing that made the ipod so sucessful. Ever think it is a great MP3 player?!?! Guess what.. it is! The best in my opinion.. and I own a kick ass Pocket PC... btu for listening to music it sucks. Takes forever for it to show a listing of songs... not to mention opening the listening app, the ipod is instant on, can find any song in seconds (try doing that on a pocket pc... especially when you have thousands of songs to look through) and best of all you can sync with itunes... pocketPCs with their limited capacities is a pain to manage.. with itunes you can make incredible smartplaylists based on almost any criteria that update in realtime and keep your music organized on a device with limited memory, like the nano. My pocket PC is useful for some things like managing my finances etc... but for music... get real! I'll stick to my ipod thanks!

Nano is very useful when you dont want to carry around the full sized ipod and just want a hand picked collection of music... but when at work I want my whole collection so I bring my 60 gig one. I used to use Archos MP3 players (have two of those too) got an Ipod from work for Christmas, and have been a convert! Ipod is so much better! Especially in combination with iTunes! The ipod does what it is supposed to do EXTREMELY well, I do not want more features!

Just some more info... AACGain works fine on AAC files that you have made yourself, but does not work on AAC files downloaded from the iTunes music store (too bad as those still distort when using the EQ). MP3gain works fine with all mp3s, and with iTunes and iPod. AAC works fine too, as long as they are not copy protected (ie iTunes store music). That should include apple lossless.

  17. Re:how to fix ipod sound when using equalizer on A Review of the iPod nano · · Score: 1

By the way, using mp3gain like I suggest above, does NOT in any way compress the dynamics of the mp3 in any way. It will be the exact same sound you are used to just at a lower volume. If you raise the volume of your ipod you will get the EXACT same sound you have always gotten. But now you can also use your EQ without distortion.

  18. how to fix ipod sound when using equalizer on A Review of the iPod nano · · Score: 4, Informative

The reason the ipod sounds horrible when you use the equalizer is not really the ipod's fault. It is your mp3s that are at fault. The reason they sound so bad is they are recorded at a level that leaves no room to boost any frequencies without distortion... let me explain. The EQ in the ipod is a digital one, and a digital signal can only be so loud before it runs out of bits and is clipped. Most songs are recorded right up to this digital limit of volume level to get the highest signal to noise ratio possible, but this also leaves no room for boosting using a digital EQ. Therefore any EQ setting on the ipod that is trying to boost frequencies can lead to severe clipping causeing the sound to be horrible even at low headphone volume level. The solution is to lower the volume of your MP3s that you load onto your ipod leaving room for the EQ to do its job without clipping. You can do this using various software, but the one I like most is called MP3Gain (google search for it). You just set what target dB level you want, it it changes the headers of your mp3s to reach that level, without changing the actual data of the MP3 itself (it only changes the header to use a multiplier of sorts to adjust volume). When you load these adjusted MP3s into your IPOD you will find you can use all the EQ settings with absolutely NO distortion at any headphone volume. And because the final amp of the IPOD is so good you will still get ear shattering volume despite the MP3s being slightly lower in volume. The difference in sound quality is stunning! Try it! No more shying away from using the EQ (which is a very high quality one in the ipod). There is lots of info around about this topic, just do a google search for ipod EQ distortion, and you will find more detailed info on why this works. Hope this helps!
