I build my own desktop systems, yes. However, are there any quality laptop vendors who will provide a machine without an operating system (read: Windows) installed?
Even if code isn't a physical entity, the real world and cyberspace are becoming more and more intertwined. Granted, I still doubt sentient malicious code is anywhere in our immediate future, but changes to records on computer systems can effect real-world problems for someone.
I'm sure glad I'm not the only one who agrees with this. This deserves a mod up as well. The advertising leeches sure like to hit 'em while they're young, as if all the commercials that rot their minds on television aren't bad enough as it is.
That's a bit ironic, considering the elitist air about the OED being the "definitive source" on the English language. Not specifically targeting you, but it just makes me chuckle a bit at mentioning the linguistic descriptivism/proscriptivism debate on an article about the OED admitting a word.
