    The wheel isn't a bad example. I'm thinking perhaps indoor plumbing might be another one. I mean one would think that anything other than dirt and the things that randomly grow out of it were shiny geek toys at one time.

    Even the pointy stick. Yep, I'm rather fond of the pointy stick. I own several.

    Sure enough, but if the geek toys were never made, she'd still be using the same crap that was around when she was born, but with a better interface. I'm sure putting a new UI on a steam engine would do it some good, but only to a point.

    that shiny geek toys are all that bad. I can't think of one thing that my grandmother (who is as far from a geek as one can get) uses every day that wasn't once a shiny geek toy to someone.

    I found one that actually exists unlike the PineTech player. Looks pretty nice. I'd like to get my hands on one and take a good look at it sometime.

    Why would someone applying to Beaver College be forced to use net nanny at all. They are most likely between the ages of 17-19 which to me is old enough to decide what they do and do not want to see on their own. And if they aren't god only knows how they managed to function through high school, let alone how they expect to go through college.

    Yeah, It was pretty sick. I'm in Baltimore as well.
    I however after seeing that just switched to the DC station on the same network.
    I didn't wanna see how much worst the news teasers would get as the movie went on.

    Maybe next time I am forced by my employer to buy hardware from Dell, I will try to order from Dell there.
    Here in the states several machines I ordered were delayed over three weeks.
    And everytime *I* called to see when I would be getting them I got a different anwser.
    All of which amounted to about the same thing "We couldn't care less."

    I've started to notice this is true. That out of alot of other countries I have talked to people from.
    Here in the US we seem to get the worst customer service. Do they treat the employees bettter other places, or is it something cultural?

    I know I've heard of it a few times in the last few years.
    But I can't remember who was effected or when.
    Anyone have a better memory then me?

    Yes, I was thinking about sending a letter off to the folks at transmeta to ask them if I could go and watch smoke start to pour out of their webserver(s). Actually webservers, looks like from some other posts that there is surely more then one.

    Well actually there are plenty of vending machines that take $10's and $20's for something cheap.
    Here in Baltimore the lightrail fare card machines take $20's for a $1.35 fare.
    And return your change using "the most annoying coin the US ever minted" a.k.a. "do I wanna trust the government that made this?" a.k.a. the Susan B. Anthony dollar.

    I don't know what that IBM guy is thinking.
    Then again what can you expect from IBM, company songs, odd blue dress code.......
    I can see where brainwashing would fit in.

    Sure, it's fun to get a little more speed from your core but, after accounting for your time and effort at what you should be making as a techie who can do things like this isn't it still more cost effective to just buy the faster chip to start with?

    Not if you do it on company time.
    As I seem to do anything I can think of a way to get done on company time gets done on company time, over clocking is REALLY cost effective.

    Beyond that, I think this stuff looks great at first look. And I think I might just be hopping in line to get one for myself.

    What killed BetaMax was that the tapes weren't long enough to record feature-length films.

    Actually it was thr fact that the market was flooded with japanese VHS players costing MUCH less then the Betamax players.
    BTW, I still have some feature length films on beta somewhere.

    True. I was just pointing out how easy it could be. I didn't say how safe. I normaly point it at a machine that I control and runs nothing other then the ftpserver anyway. What else am I going to use a 386 for?

    There's nothing you can, or even should be able to do.
    Sounds to me like you're whineing because you didn't get your way with these domains.

    I donno why I'm even replying to this. It will just drag out this "Someone else got there and did what I wanted to do first, and I dont like it" thread.

    I donno, I'm still trying to figure oyut eh logic behind how the taxes are taken out. I get paid weekly, I take home $300 more in two weeks then I do if I get paid every two weeks. But I *MAKE* the same amount of money a year. But how often I get my checks effects how much of it I actually see. Where's the logic in that?

    Ummm ok, so companies don't want to install 21 seperate patches.
    So set up autorpm to point at redhats updates directory. And you install 0 patches. You just let autorpm do all the "work".
    Have it update automagicly.
    If anything linux is easier for a company to keep current then NT.

    Well phunc is working on something sort of like this.
    Basicly it's an irc server/client package that all traffic is encrypted, i.e. client/server server/server.

    We're implimenting the security in modules, so if you don't want to use say blowfish, you drop in the oh for this case ummm triple-des module and away you go.
