So its bad that the libertarians want you to have more of the money you earn.
Yes, because even if I complain about it when I get my paycheck I believe that some poor kid growing up today should get the same chance I did to get a good (publicly paid for) education and a decent job instead of spending his life cleaning floors and polishing shoes.

I earn enough money without "welfare for the well-off".
  2. Re:Game/Movie 'synergy' could be a goodthing on Game/Movie Comparisons Raise Art Question Again · · Score: 1

I believe that games would do better to become more 'movie-esque' than vice versa.

    I disagree.

Games need to be as interactive a possible, complex storylines and characters make this extremely difficult.

Look at it this way, good music can be enjoyed simply by listening. A good movie, on the other hand, requires visual attention from the viewer as well. Listening to a movie and glancing up at the screen periodically will give you not much more than the audio format can deliver on its own (ie. radio plays).

Moving on to games, having a game that is visually and musically interesting but lacking in gameplay is akin to having a movie without any compelling visuals. Both only exploit part of their medium. For a game to be a good game artistically I believe it has to do something expressive with the interactive part of the experience. Playing the game should be MUCH more stimulating than just watching it. This is not easy to do, but when done right the game can transcend its technological limitations (eg. Tetris), just like a good movie (ie. Citizen Kane).

I think you're splitting hairs, the effect on ID in this case would be the same either way. In fact, you could argue that the real piracy is less of an issue since it occurs in parts of the world where games are too expensive for most people to buy anyway.

The people downloading the game via bittorrent (using their $40/month broadband I assume) should be able to afford the game.

It's more like boycotting US products because the US air force bombed your house. The problem with the current free market is that people are very willing to give corporations a pass for their transgressions. Had some cracker created the Sony rootkit and distributed it to unknowing victims he would be in prison. Sony? They got a slap on the wrist.

Some of us - Even adults for a good many years now - Believe that kids have some right to privacy. Personal experience demonstrated to me, at least, that the more controlling someone's parents acted, the worse that person turned out. This has been my experience as well. I knew some very controlling parents in my day whose kids bordered on the edge of sociopathy. I realize that correlation != causation so you can take that comment with a grain of salt, but I think most kids need to learn to fend for themselves sooner or later.

Nothing, but if you can't trust your kids even a little I think underage drinking will be the least of your worries.

Moreover I don't expect that a generation raised using surveillance will be particularly upset by increased government surveillance in their adult years. Or maybe that's the whole point.

Well I guess now we know why Christianity is the pure and only religion and all others are inferior.
