That was their point. The combination of the fact that people will have used linux in school, and it doesnt require piracy to run will hopefully bring about more use of linux.

Driving at excessive speeds does not nessicarially mean that there is an increase of colliding with another car, rolling over in a ditch, or wrapping around a tree, and the doctors said that if I had gotten there only a few min. earlier, I would have had a much easier time in the hospital. Because they didnt make it there, I had to go through a decontamination to make sure I was healthy before the doctors did anything else. 5. I wonder... on Mac OS X x86 Put To The Test · · Score: 1

I wonder how they will actually stop people from running OSX for X86 on any x86 PC. Before people flame me for not reading the artical, I know they will do hardware checks in the final version. I have been running a development version (10.4.1) on my dell for several weeks now, and although I can't install 10.4.3 (or any newer version) because of the new hardware checks, I can patch my 10.4.1 installation to match that of the 10.4.3 (and I assume any further versions). This circumvents apple's attempts to cause the development releases to be unable to run new universal binaries compiled with XCode 2.2

I'm curious to see if they will find a way to keep people from patching their already installed OSX installations in the future, or if they will just count on its inconveniance on keeping people away. In any case, I am VERY impressed with what I have seen of it so far -- it works almost as flawlessly as its PPC version, but is still only in the (final?) development stages.

  10. Cool, but useful? on VirtuSphere Immersive Virtual Reality · · Score: 1

Seems like an interesting idea, although not very revolutionary. The technology that they really need to improve on is not the movement of the body (ie, walking in any direction), but the ability for fine motor control inside the virtual reality (ie using arms and hands to hold / move objects).

Once they mastered that, I see virtual reality really taking off. Until then, it just seems like a 'cool toy', but isnt very useful.

Oh, and they're a little vague on the details, but since the ball can move in any direction, I wonder what happens when the user 'walks' to the huge opening in the picture :P

That's because ms sucks. Get a clue.

Microsoft actually is very capable of putting out a really nice product. They just dont have any reason to spend the extra time/money most of the time, because customers will still use/buy a lower quality product. Take Microsoft Office for example. On Windows, office crashes (somewhat frequently... not as often as older versions, but enough to be noticable).

Now look at Microsoft Office for Mac OS X. I have never experianced a crash, it works flawlessly with the windows version (minus encrypted file support), and looks a lot better. Thats because the average Mac user have gotten used to, and expect a better product than the average windows user. (No offense to windows users intended... I still use windows on one of my computers, I have just noticed that I get higher quality apps on my mac than PC)

When the pressure's on, Microsoft can put out a very good product.

There's no more risk of people making 'illegal copies' of the movies/songs than there is from renting them from blockbuster/hollywood videos/netflix.
