    education is seen as an important social stabilizer.
    Oh, trust me, the USA has that, too. Most of the nasty things Westerners see about Japan are just open admissions of the nastiest, most covered up bits of our own culture. Like how the "rugged individualism" that built America is basically dead, replaced with office buildings, high schools and strip malls.

    Now bring on the robots!

    Who said it was new? It's right in the Jargon File, the question is what's in the modern War on Terrorism dictionaries rather than the old Cold War dictionaries.

    These things tend to work based on certain key phrases and words in Dictionaries. Sprinkle your speech with random terrorist-sounding words and phrases as "Vote Green for peace", "jihad", "Allah", "kill for God" and "assasinate George W. Bush" to countermeasure!

    Yes, but who fetches metadata over the network? User-attached metadata can be created as sub-files and then safely ignored by network software that only touches the primary file.

    It is pretty stupid, and I can't see why The World hasn't gone the Reiser4 route of storing metadata as sub-files of the file itself, which can be accessed as a directory to look at its metadata and as a file to read it.

    Wow, and won't all this conversion to DRM'd digital machines obsolete the old ones? Of course, which is probably the real goal here. They aren't merely plugging a hole in their Digital Rights Massacreing, they're forcing everyone to go out and buy new stuff! WOOT, keep the economy fueled and the profits where they belong: in the hands of those who don't need them.

    1.Ender didn't self-sacrifice in killing the Buggers. He made himself the single most glorified hero of all humanity. When he was first drafted into Battle School he was tricked into going. None of this says "Jesus figure" to me.
