I'm repeating something that also happens to be in some of the comments on TFA, but: Since when does use of "we" instead of "I" indicate spin or deception? If that's your standard, the guy who thinks in terms of a movement, who sees the country as a grand collaboration, is always going to come out as dishonest. And the guy who talks about rugged individualism is going to look like a straight shooter, even if his statements on policy are self-contradicting nonsense.

I think you just explained American politics.

No, they don't. To Islamists I'm Great Shaitan and Little Shaitan in one person by my mere existence. This problem is not solvable, and the probability of its resulting in damage to my person and/or property is low.

Government intrusions against civil liberties affects me now, as does the control of the government and the country by corporate lobbyists. This problem is more than solvable, it is easy. Therefore, solve the easy problem with worse effects before the hard problem that scarcely affects me.

Yeah, and? Everyone knows the only difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter is which side you're on. Terrorism is a tactic -- one that sometimes even the morally-correct side of a war must employ if it wants to "live long enough to become the villain" rather than "die a hero".

And yes, I know the NSA is listening. I don't care. Fuck the NSA. I have no plans of blowing anything up, but I refuse to delude myself just so a bunch of pasty-skinned pansies (who've apparently taken the exclusive right to define "America" and "American") can tell themselves they're always right and fighting some kind of fundamental, Satan-like evil. They're just a bunch of ignorant-ass pasty-skinned pansies throwing poor farm-boys who wanted to go to college at even poorer and more ignorant Arab boys who figured 72 houris in Paradise is better than starving to death without even one wife here on Earth. Actually, we got those lands at our origin as a people when the Israelite kingdom united the Canaanites.

What we need is a world of individual freedom: a world where people are not constrained by race or ethnicity or culture or religion. If a Japanese guy wants to live in the Middle east and eat burritos and listen to Bach organ concertos then he should be just as welcome as a Jew or Muslim or Christian or African or Asian or Caucasian or whatever.
