  4. Ho hum, Yet another linux adoption article.. on Why the World Is Not Ready For Linux · · Score: 1

To state the obvious, Linux needs an effort similar to OSX; to provide a GUI shell which encapsulates all the necessary tasks an end user has, bug free and stipulation free. Users are not willing to revert to a command line for ANYTHING. Nothing will have a greater impact on consumer adoption than this. Perhaps Ubuntu/KDE/GNOME are making strides in this area already. In addition to corperate backers pushing/funding vendors to open hardware, these entities have the resources to further push desktop adoption by supporting more standard, cross-platform approaches to game development such as OpenGL, SDL or similar. There simply isn't enough going on in this area. Why aren't we seeing "Open Game Development Studio XYZ" funded by a corperate?

  5. Please, enough is enough. on DHS Publishes Report on Operation Cyberstorm · · Score: 1

It may be too late at this point but can we please ban the word "[cC]yber" from use in the U.S. government? This can go for any other stupid, vague, technology fantasy land word as well. This kind of nomenclature just helps make us look like ignorant idiots the world over. Not that we needed it in that department.

  6. Why Slack these days? on Slackware 11.0 Almost Done · · Score: 1

I've enjoyed using slack purely because it doesn't try to get in the way of an experienced linux user with a mess of configuration utilities and package management. At the same time it provides enough basic, simple, and direct facilities to avoid the desire to roll my own distro.

"Windows will give a 30 day warning and when the 30 days is up and WGA isn't installed, Windows will stop working, so you might as well install WGA now." Or the 30day_removal_whatever.exe crack which will come out well in advance of this.
