  2. Great Ruling! Lots Of Reasons To Use A Modchip.... on Mod Chips Legal In the UK · · Score: 1

I have an old xbox with a broken hard drive that I brought - or is that 'licensed' secondhand ;) to use as a media player.

Little did I know when I got it that Microsoft had decided to LOCK each xbox's harddrive to it's individual hardware and as a side effect the hard drive cannot be user replaced. The only way to replace a drive for old hardware like that is to use a modchip.

Nice to know I'll be able to put it to good use again now rather than it being resigned to the dump.

If there was no ability to mod our routers, wii remotes, pda's etc. when we'd fast turn into a 'black box' culture of throwaway crap, rather than having the opportunity to re-purpose it for a better afterlife.

I love openoffice an everything BUT ...

Seeing as how the MS vs OOo comparison was blasted for its bias (old version of word etc.) and maybe shouldn't even of made slashdot, was it really wise to refer to it again...

    Fair and balanced.

    Really?

There's a brilliant documentry Outfoxed that looks into just how 'fair and balanced' fox is.

Amongst a myriad of damming evidence some of the most startling is probably the internal memo's sent out advising on how to slant coverage to fit the conversative/right-wing agenda.

There's no doubt that they secretly manipulate the news and that in turn they wind up manipulating people's perception of the truth.

And what...? Google Talk is based on the open source Jabber protocol .. anyone can use it/make a client.

...which btw is a great reason to get others to use it.
