OS9 and older has some viruses (most program specific and applescript) but market share was about equal to what it is now, osX is a better system. UNIX in his days had his share of hacks and pracks but thats over now.
On the other hand we are not immune to ignorant users clicking on every fun new-year app they get via the mail, the big problem is THEREZ NO GOOD ANTIVIRUS SOFT AVAILABLE FOR US, THEY ALL SUCK.:(
UNIX got 30 years development and bug hunting behind it and the flaws really got exploited at the time, i believe it really is safer than Windows and much harder to exploit. UNIX variants and osX variants tend not to be uber backwards compatible and thats a plus if it comes to security, if something needs to be broken for more security Apple will do it as history has proven. As opposed to MS that rather uses a workaround to maintain the compatibility.
MS first intention was a complete rewrite but that was way over the edge, so now they'll just revamp XP with security tweaks and we have to be happy with that?
I'm glad Vista is will be able to run on my new intel Mac but i'm probably to afraid to use it as i have no experience with the security problems you guys tackle on a daily basis. Buying and renting all that viri soft just so i can play a win-only game is also a downer. I really hate it, maybe i'l just buy a PS3 if it supports mouse and keyboard.
I did say in the US, there racism is freedom of speech (as long as the "n"-word isn't used) but other political statements can get you jailed in a heartbeat. I agree that not everything the VB says is BS but they only win votes with the racial statements they make not the political correct ones.
"As a.NET developer, I haven't looked too hard at Mac dev tools, but I will say I could see an argument that Microsoft's rich development environment has some unexcpected consequences. Microsoft has made it easy for just about anybody to pick up software development, and as a result, just about anybody has picked up software development. =) "
You mean more virus writers?
Nothing is stopping Apple to produce a special osX version for this laptop and distribute it free on (sponsored) DVD's, if Apple doesn't do this then the offer wasn't serious but just cheap marketing. Maybe it was just a warning to all that osX is going to be licensed to other computer makers.
The Atari 7800 sold reasonably good but the next Atari, the Jaguar64, again didn't have the backward thing, let alone all the problems in management they had.
agreed, the genesis/mega drive even got 50-65 % marketshare back then but lost it with the Saturn and Dreamcast who were not backward compatible.
Sega also added a CD drive and 32 bit to the genesis but it didn't work out, just as adding a HD player to the xbox won't help. xbox is dead.
Well, you get a multitude of games at launch and most gamers can't keep all there old consoles connected but definitely want to play the games. Compatibility is very important as previous consoles have learned the hard way, imagine Windows to be not backwards compatible with the option to just restart in a previous version.:P
Not compatible : - Nintendo - Sega - xbox - all others..
Sony is going to use whatever is standard by then, being second isn't always a bad thing. HD games and movies are years to early on the market or will be, look at the first gold disk movies. Movie content is also going to be secured and just a few HD screens at the moment can handle this, we buy FUD tv's now!
If sony is smart its going to wait til the standard is set and use that, the 360 is now stuck with DVD for games no mater what upgrade MS puts on the market the next few years.

The blog is biased to say the least. the VB officially tries to split up the country in 2, think thats state treason in the VS.

I do believe MS is also using a Linux partner to distribute the content, can't recall the name but all very large sites us this technique.
