oooh where to start. I worked for at a cancellation departmen on backshift. we got a caller in one evening who called in and got every agent who was there. All we could gather was that she was in a trailer in the woods and in her bathrobe. she screamed for 8 hours almost solid, I imagine she managed to get some breath in between dialing. then there was the time a woman was asking me where to find black market babys on the internet. the time that a fellow in cape canaveral called to do technical support. He was nervous around computers so he drank a bottle of wine to calm himself. he was on hold for awhile so he cracked out the cheap wine. yeah he must have screamed at like 4 agents before he got me. The guy who was going back in time. neve figured that one out. the people who called from prison, homeless shelters, etc etc. We would get a lot of people trying to troubleshoot in blackouts.. "Sir could you turn your computer on?" "I can't see the button, its dark." "Why is it dark?" "The powers out." DOH! people troubleshooting their home comptuer from a cellphone... on the higway, doing 100, and cursing at other motorists. An indian fellow who was dying for customer service one night. he couldn't watch his beastiality porn and wanted help from his isp (us) so he called. and would get very agitated saying that he couldn't watch his videos of "whores and bitches" (dogs having sex with women, he later explained.) He was furious that no one would touch him with a ten foot pole. the sexual advances... Ahh that is its own special little part of destroying my soul. The political ranting. the religious ranting. The well just plain nastiness and ignorance of people. I've seen it all, and I can't remember off the top of my head some of the more horrific stories. A cusotmer only had a parts replacement warranty from her OEM. So when he brand new computer cought fire and exploded it was replaced... part by part. She called me with an assortment of boxes and a butterknife. Needless to say she was a person whose VCR blinked 12:00. I know of no other place where Tylenol is sold in the vending machines. and constantly sells out. fun quotes... My computer doesnt work, the lightning strike had nothing to do with it! I have the CD, how do i get my sewing machine on the internet? How did I get 2 three year contracts, all I did was make photocopies of my daughters weding invitation.

I am not prophesizing about some vague market trends, I am simply stating as amatter of fact that a lot of people whose computers I personally work on will be using linux shortly, and I personally will be holding their hands through it. These people do the internet, thats it. you are vastly over estimating peoples computer intelligence.

Ok, the thing with the pirated copies of windows xp. A lot of people have it, an insane lot of people. Now should windows cut the cord so to say its not going to be the people who own the computers who make the decision on what operating system, its going to be the geeks that shall inherit the earth. I do "tech support" for a lot of people on the side, and a few of them will have pirated windows, law of averages and all that. When the time comes I'm going to put it on the table for them. I can buy windows and install it for them. BUT, I'ts gonna cost, heavy time. Or,I can stick a user friendly distro of linux on it for free. Most of them aren't going to pick the xp. Plain and simple. These people didn't choose xp cause it was windows, they did choose it because it was free. Most of them only use it for the internet anyway, and are pretty used to firefox to begin with. So a vaguely windows looking OS with firefox, and maybe thudnerbird will be enough to satisfy them. They won't be able to install any bought games, but most of them don't know how to install games anyway.

I've haad it made evident to myself in so many ways its not funny. A higher up once told me and a class full of trainees to stop asking questions because there were a thousand people waiting for our jobs. He is now stocking shelves at the dollarama, fired for fucking an inferior in a board room. When I see him I fight the urge to spit in his face. NOw this was a few years ago, and I've since learned that those 1000 that were waiting for my job are a joke. They are running out of people to hire that arent yokels. They burned through the degreed people first (my group) then the trainables, now they have nothing left to hire from but the bottom of the barrell... anyone with any mind in their head won't work here. That analogy would work if television or even movies were free. But they aren't. I pay handsomely for my television. It is actually the highest bill I have. All those add on stations, specialty channels. I pay through the teeth. The commercials, sometimes insane amounts in a single show are simply double dipping on their parts. SO, I pay to have the channel, pay to watch the show via commercials, and then eventually pay to watch the dvd. Of course those shows are paid for multiple times, in repeats, in commercials, in dvds. How many times am I expected to pay? That is one of the reasons that I don't go to the movies as much anymore. They started to show commercials before the movie. not previews for coming attractions, but actual commercials. First fruitopia, lexus, stupid goddam commercials. I took 2.5 hours out of my life and paid ten dollars to sit in a darkened room and watch commercials. It annoyed me.

There is a large percentage of doctors, most of whome got their degrees in third world cesspools. dodging either tuition costs, or admission requirments in the first world. They have substandard education and it shows. My grandmothers doctor retired and passed her on to another doctor from said third world hellhole. A particularly vile woman, who had been nicknamed dr death at the local emergency. Anyway, this doctor decided to take my grandmother off of her thyroid medication. Her thyroid basically does nothing, and she has been on serious meds for decades for it. so after a few weeks off of her medication my grandmother was hallucinating, and basically crazy. She had such nervous energy that she was literally vibrating. I was scared to death, I was alone with her and didn't know what to do.... So I go to google. Which basicaly confirms that dr death is basically a duck in a pond, and that we had to get some thyroid medication into her. I started her on half of the pills she had been taking before the quack got to her. She started to normalize after about 12 hours. Lovely time. Not exactly on topic for the main thrust of this thread, but relevent to the comment I replied to.

In some instances it was blatant, in others not so much, but there was an underlying thought process going on. It's not a word for word thing, its an ideology thing. Constantly trying to prove that they were right, that people enjoy their style of economics more than the other. Thus propoganda, the sputnik, the moon landing, coca cola, civil rights. It was all them trying to boast about which side was better. I remember a quote somewhere about how if a corporation was actually a person as it is somewhat legally it would be dangerously psychotic.
