    This has been addressed before. The terrorists could care less what life is like in Europe or America. What they want is all of the Western nations out of the Middle East so they can do what they want without our meddling.

    What strikes me as odd is that the more they do stuff like this, the more we focus on invading them (whether "we" want to or not). One would think they would have figured this out by now.

    Why use bacteria and not just enzymes?

    The great thing about using the whole bacterium is that then it produces whatever enzymes it needs from the same stuff you feed it with. This cuts out the very expensive process of manufacturing the enzymes yourself.

    You're right that they're the only constituents of the light we see, but if supersymmetry turns out to exist, then it predicts the existence of the "photino" which may or may not be related to the electromagnetic force in a similar way as the photon. Also, since it's quite massive it's a possible candidate for dark matter, but that's a bit off-topic.
