This poor fellow is experiencing the joys of intellectual property laws in Texas. I hate to say it, but he was screwed from the beginning. You need to pay attention to your contract and to the local laws. In Texas, employers have rights to intellectual property their employees produce, be it at work or home. However, this is not the case in California.
Being an EE student in Texas, this is unappealing. If i create something at home, I dont want to go to court with my employer. This law clearly benefits the companies.
But, I think this law sucks. This law will only serve to stymie the growth of high tech in Austin and Dallas.
Somebody with legal experience please clarify this, as I am sure I've been imprecise in legal terms.;)
My thinkpad 380xd is sufficient for me. But I have peripherals out the ass... Remember, schools often have unix machines, so you do not have to buy one yourself.
A decent IBM Thinkpad can be had for ~1500. Invest the rest in stocks;)
Nobody knows for sure what technology will look like a few years down the road. Perhaps someone will invent a new hull material that can withstand high energy collisions, thus enabling a ship travel at a higher velocity more safely. I am still waiting for transporter technology to be perfected.:)
I concur. Obsolete may be used as a transitive verb meaning "to make obsolete." In fact, my websters indicates that the word "obsolete" is derived from the past participle of the latin verb obsolescere. Mmm. I miss latin class...

The last thing I need is for my computers to be mistaken for firewood.

...therefore YOU must be crap.
Will a violet laser be able to restrict the movements of particles moreso than the lasers currently used?
I concur.

The learning opportunities are plentiful at a university. Plus, attending school allows one to make friends and contacts- very useful.
Most importantly, I doubt many high caliber tech companies would consider hiring somebody with no college education.
