    Go is a game of territory.
    Each stone is like a fence post.
    The goal is to fence off more territory than your opponent, while minimizing the number of posts you place, and maximizing the number that you opponent must play.

    Quite simply, it is the best game in the word. It can be played by anyone with a brain ( ~8 yrs and up )

    To learn the game you should play with someone (a human) who has played before.

    Nope, it is a 3d accelerated GIS viewer.

    They have a huge amount of data in varried resolution. Most of it is available from multiple sources for free; however they have it all in one spot and all converted for their program.

    What makes it truly great is the ability to add your own overlays directly over top of its data. Quite a spectacular product.

    If you have it give this a try take a image of vegitaion [A] and overlay it over Iraq with at 30% transparency. Add a overlay that with the sunni / sheite population densities [B] and do the same.

    KaPow! Data in context. Quite amazing really.

    [A] vegetation will require some cutting and pasting... but the images you have w/ key hole are pretty good
    [B] Religious groups

    just open up a shell and show them this line your /etc/crontab file.
    25 6 * * * root test -e /usr/sbin/anacron || run-parts --report /etc/cron.daily

    That is you daily virus isn't it. ;)

    I personally use sophos as a virus scanner on *nix. I find lots of funny stuff flying through my mail server. Keeps the mail clean so the executives can click on almost whatever they want...

    I like the Catfish namazu.org <-- google cache ( thats catfish in japanese ).

    It has multiple 'filters' that allow you to index .txt .pdf .doc and various other file formats. It also has some grep like command line utilities that allows you to 'grep' for text.

    Oh, and it has a perl front end for apache, and IIS. ( win32 installer available from here: www.namazu.org/windows

    caveat: As with any full text search engine, the files should be reindexed on a regular basis, but this is worth it as the searches are very fast even with gigs of documents.

    GPS? it almost does. Remember WAP/WML and our friends at http://www.openwave.com/?

    They have this thing called a 'location server' and if you (wap developer) pay the service provider ( verizon, telus... ) they will add a extra header your wap/wml requests that contain your current location. ( accuracy depends on positioning methods that are being used, cell-id, EOTD (enhanced observed time difference), AGPS ( assisted GPS ) and can range between 1000 meter to 5 meters.

    I thought it would be a blast to play with, but I have not found any way to get the info for free without using their 'simulator' deck viewer.

    Too bad it has a high geek value, mostly because its name is rather odd.
    I like the fact that this device is that it has enough neat tech in it to make it worth playing with the firmware.
    ie, if for some reason you wanted to record a radio program at a schedualed time, and play it back at a differnt time automatically. ( ie last nights latenight rant radio in the morning ) they could modify this beast. neat-o. tivo/ipod be damned I like this one.

    Looks like they have even bigger HD's than the ipod, and a build in FM transmitter! ( specs for the usb2 8 gig here )

    some neat stuff:
    Playtime: 10 hours when fully charged
    Frequency response: 20 to 20,000Hz

    FM Broadcasting:
    Transmission Strength: 250 microV/M-2 at 3m
    Maximum range: 20 feet

    and it can record audio as MP3 or wav.
    All for a sane price of $449.99

    Hopefully this will be lower by the winter gift giving season ( or summer, if you stand upsidedown).

    Nice try...

    People that run FreeBSD dont to it because it is cute [cats|pengiuins] to have around. People use it because it it is rock solid, easy to maintain and upgrade.

    Think of FreeBSD as a Oxen. Strong, Powerfull, functional, and probally has more power than you need.

    This is the same problem that is being exploited by banner ads setting cookies across domains.

    If you go to security settings in IE ( I've checked IE 6.x ) click custom level, and set "Navigate sub-frames across different domains" to prompt. You will get a nice little pop up warning.

    Now I can visit unsafe websites like microsoft.con

    or just make it very clear: NO WIRELESS NETWORKS. Walk around with netstumbler and a directional antenna. After a few people get antennas pointed at them, the networks will stop.
    I think that is a good idea. You could log all traffic, and the location within you lecture hall with 3 modified linksys 'G' wifi routers. Record the information, and afterwords ban the offenders.

    IMHO I am sure that if you though some people were cheating that you could demand their laptop/etc and get their wep key. You could then (I assume) decrypt the logged data and prove that they were sending around answers. ( or better, prove that they were not sending answers...)

    200+ spam mails a day. wtf. You have to try hard to get that much junk mail. ( I know I've done it before... but that is another story...) My guess is that he had subscribed to a lot of opt-in lists, and thought of them as spam. As most /. users know most of the guys/gals running those systems are legit honest people. And therefor he just unsubscribed from the list. The moral of the story is get a email address for friends, for work, and one for mailing lists, and opt ins. I have had a couple email addresses for almost 8 years now and they get 1-2 spam messages a week.

    based on the comments in the SpamSolution Form Letter I think this could work.

    The Minister was the first to talk about spam in a sane manner. They acknowledge that it is a very difficult problem to solve, and it is going to require international organization and cooperation, AND cooperation of various standards groups and corporations.

    The best part of the speach was, lets think about this, try some things get together in a year and see if anything worked. He didn't say here is My Bill, this will stomp out spam once and for all. He said we are all in this together...

    The speedpass is a interesting idea, and a much safer/saner one than this implanted RFID tag.

    The watch is a great idea. ( and its only $50 USD ) much better than the 150 implanted device.

    I think the speedpass is a little spooky, but so are 'air mile' cards and other consumer cookies.

    I though a firewire over ip solution shouldn't be to hard to find. However when I did a google search I found a lot of dislexics out there really talking about "IP over Firewire". query

    My guess is that this is what you are looking for DV Stream on IEEE1394 Encapsulated into IP

    You may also want to look at The Comet Project if you are willing to buy some custom hardware (non english)

    I have some MD friends, and I help them with their softwhere on occasion. A couple weeks ago I came across OpenEMR.

    It is a OpenSource ( I couldn't find the license, but probably its GPL'd) Electronic Medical Record system. It looks great, I will probably be demoing it for some Doctors in the near future. ( once I get some time to install it myself, check the code etc... )

    Slashdot and other OSDN sites can mess up companies. ( and home based webservers) AFAIK that is why you, myself and everyone else still reads slashdot.

    I just like seeing dirty laundry... I cowardly admit it. ;)

    I did look at your site... with a NPA of 604... you are good in my books... and $50 in any currency isn't that bad... ( aprox 2 months home internet access for me).

    There is some Slanderous content on the page you linked to that helps me know whom you are talking about. ( left as exercise for the reader )

    So 5,500 people didnt know where they live? I thought that voters had to know something.
    Orange County election worker Darrell Nolta, who volunteered at a Westminster polling place, discovered after voting already had begun that, despite being told there was only one precinct for their polling place, they actually had two.

    Who runs elections volenteers... maybe its time to START PAYING FOR SOMETHING. ( no not beer...)

    I dunno, I've seen groups where there are 5 managers and one peon. Managers seem to accumulate.
