I've come to the conclusion that BC isn't that important (for the majority). Sure, the hardcore gamers or those that spent a ton of money on old games might like it. (In fact, I thought it was something I would use tremendously... but I found out I only put my games in to see if they would actually work and never touched them again.) For the majority, a new system needs new games. They've already played the crap out of all those old titles and it's time to move on. Removing BC to reduce the price is going to go unnoticed or "uncared" by the majority of the people looking for a "Playstation" brand gaming console for HD games. They will only notice the sticker on the shelf.
It's the same reason people upgrade software on their PC when they get a new OS. The old software clashes with the new and groovy look.
Yep. Pretty much anything that allowed TCP/IP connections was free. You just had to know the IP of your host. All this talk brings back memories of the serial link cable we made JUST to play some of those old games.
Agree. But I still think they need to code up a nice small front-end instead of using the browser. They can accept an XML feed and show the "PSN store" as if it were integrated right into the XMB. Up/down would select the category (Games/Videos/Trailers/Music/Backgrounds/Demos), off that you could select All/Newest (1 month), by Company, then Title. Or if it was robust enough, you could separate/sort it by Genre, Release Date, etc. There's so much they could do without going to the browser and using a "feed like" system.
Feels like Vanguard all over again, only this the devs/publisher cut the beta-testers out of the loop. I'm not in the Warhammer Beta, but was in the Vanguard Beta. I read this and thought of how many times the Sigil crew said they were reworking the "core mechanics" and ended up releasing a product with no direction (and way too early.)
What would be the motive? Why would Google want to shut down an email client? I use Gmail and Thunderbird to download my messages off Gmail. I'm still using Gmail. The only thing I can think of is the fact that I don't have ads on the edge of my screen with Thunderbird as I do with the Gmail web interface. If they wanted to shut something down, why not turn off POP3 access? I'm sure there are plenty of people using the POP server that are not using Thunderbird. The Google/T-Bird conspiracy doesn't make sense to me.
I'm sure it's minimal. Since DX has version numbers, it turns into a whole ordeal when a new version comes out that the standard old OpenGL has supported for years. Isn't marketing fun?
That's my question. Can't other phone companies use the fiber line into your house as well? I thought all fiber/copper went back to the same switching station anyway.
<smallprint>* You may notice a 30% failure rate and very loud noises while playing a game. This is expected behavior. Your mileage may vary. Microsoft is not responsible for the loss of life during a fire cause by overheating bricks. Please consult your local fire codes before starting. Unit must remain in the off position while not in use. Shipping unit in for repair may be required. Additional handling fees may apply.</smallprint>
Seriously though...
The general geek perception is that the machine is a piece of shit. Unless you happen to work for Microsoft or have devoted your life to being it's love slave.
I wasn't talking about third party, but if you have a lot of in house stuff that doesn't do anything really obscure, it may very well work just as it does in Windows.

I don't think he needs to talk to do that.

I always thought it meant Pineapple Orange Smoothie. :(

I thought the answer th the GP's question was "Trusting Microsoft" ...
I think you pretty much answered your own issue there. You did say it was a Beta version, right?

"multiplatform"
You can get this game in any platform...as long as the platform is Microsoft.

Wine may very well make your applications work in Linux. You'd have to try each one out and see though.
You going for a record?
I moved out of my last neighborhood because of the element...
(Actually, I didn't... but that's what I think of when someone refers to people as an "element".)
I learned something. Didn't you?
Is either one Open? Go with that which won't pigeon whole you into a lock-in situation.
Or it could be the fact that "popular" society thrives on drama.
"If your life isn't making headlines, your not doing it hard enough."
Actually, both of you exist. It is I that does not exist.
...or at least a fancy lab with blue under desk lighting and neon plexiglass walls with blacklights. I mean, seriously.
Burning Off Fran's Hair
Bend Over For Him
Beached Old Fat Hag
Boys Obedient For Herbert
Damn it... Why can't I think of that acronym!
And I thought a "stubby" was something else!
It's a magic number.
