I actually bought Windows 7 for my Gaming PC and with the KB971033 patch it seems that even my computer can't keep itself validated. It would come up with a "This version of Windows is not Genuine" message and ask me to validate it yet again. I gave up activating my PC after the third time and just removed that update.

The idea is that it may not have been a sale if it wasn't free. That sale might have gone to a cheaper AV package instead of the "Pay For" one. People still have the idea that "the pay version must be better and since this is free-to-me, let's use it."

Anyway. The idea that you can program without being a programmer didn't die... it's very much still alive and kicking with people kicking back. (Management doesn't want to do the work...that's what you are for!) I went to an MS SQL "thing" in Chicago back in 2005 and they were still trying to pitch the idea that a manager could go in and draw up a flow chart and if the code was not written for a particular aspect it would be assigned to someone to make. If they wanted something easy, the code was already done for the most part and all they had to do was "compile" their flow chart to a program. (That's basically what I understood of it.)

Just to be clear here... "Fair" does not mean more. The rich are already paying a higher percentage of their income (28-35%) than the poor (10-25%.) (Arbitrary line drawn by me) You can see by the first chart:
    http://www.taxfoundation.org/news/show/250.html
that even after adjustments, the rich still pay over 17% (up to 23%) where the "poor" pay under 15% (as low as 2.59%.)

I think what you are referring to as "Fair" is the rich being taxed so much that they can only afford minimally more than the poor. This is only "Fair" if you think that net income (after taxes) should be equal. Or that "Fair" constitutes a specific standard of living and anything above that is "excess." The problem with that is that it's only fair until you cross the line where it's now, "not fair" that they are taking more of your income than your neighbor who doesn't work as many hours or have as much responsibility as you.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on what you are thinking.

One could argue that those would be considered inalienable anyway. (Can't take away the ability for someone to speak, vote, defend oneself...) There was heated debate on if the Bill of Rights needed to be enumerated. With the way people talk about them as being individual Rights, I suppose it was a good thing that they wrote them down. (They shouldn't have needed to though.)

Do we still NEED a law that says people have the right to vote no matter what sex they are? Do we still need to keep that law around or are there really people that think if it were nullified that we'd suddenly go back to denying Women voting rights? That's not what you think, is it?

Do we still need a law that says slavery is not permitted? (maybe we still do)

  13. Re:Doh on House Passes TV Commercial Volume Bill · · Score: 0

Sometimes the invisible hands needs to be pushed in a particular direction because of our lack of a true and genuine free market.

The only aside I would put on that is that laws like these (heck, any laws) should be automatically set to sunset in, let's say, 5 years. Every 5 years of a law's life, it should be brought back to the floor and re-voted on to see if it's still valid. Any law that has not been "touched" would become null and void. (Exempted from that being Constitutional Amendments, which I think should be re-evaluated every 25 years.)

You're treating a symptom, not the problem.

Giving money to the poor doesn't instantly make them powerful. Especially when they take the $600-$1200 (ore more) they got and go put a down payment on a new $40,000 Cadillac debt in an effort to impress their neighbors or church members.

Basically put, you're not going to "fix" the problem by assuming that you can tax the "rich" (in this case, that magic number seems to be > $200K-$250k) so much that they make the same as you.

Inevitably, the poor have to get off their couch (and quit whining that it "won't make a difference" or some other nonsense) and go educate themselves on a candidate and vote for someone who is not one of the normal two party nominated puppets that we keep flip-flopping in and out of office. This includes (most importantly the least vote turnout) local elections.

They need to get past the idea that one person is going to step up and change the world and realize that change happens over time, from the local level up. Nobody is going to elect a President who has not had a political background and guess where that political background comes from... local government.
