I disgree: I would bet almost everyone who has some kind of formal education can make the distinction. Also, not knowing 10 state capitals in a foriegn country is far far worse than not recgnoizing Africa is a continent made up of many countries.
While I admit that I'm not much of a gamer, for me the Final Fantasy series is the epitome of a combination of a movie and a game. It has all the theatrical, story, action, love, and adventure elements of a movie....and you get the play it (for the most part). That and the fact that they actually did have a movie come out of the series that did pretty well. D
This actually sounded like much better idea for a reality TV show than most, until I RTFA. Why do they insist on making all these things redicioulously cheasy?
More importantly, why do we enjoy seeing the monotony of our daily lives mirrored in front of us so much? To stroke our egos!?

The problems that the writer of this article is fumbling around are the same problems with all of mainstream culture. The companies, investing so much into the product, cut out all the art for as much marketability/functionality/sales as they possibly can. The games are too expensive to make well, so there isn't a corresponding indie genre for the people that really love games.
