    What's more, I can't think of a single scenario in which someone would install an operating system given out for free to their kids. If they know enough about computers to install Linux, they already know where to get it themselves.

    I mostly agree. There's the limited group of people who have heard about Linux and do have an intrest in it, but who require an encouraging push to give it a try (placing the cd they need into their hand).

    I can't help but think there'll be far, far, far more disappointed kiddies than those who go install Linux on the home computer.

    Hrm, thing is, I could only put up maybe five bucks at most right now. Being broke sucks. I'll keep my fingers proverbially crossed in hope that the space capsule ends up in a museum (after all, it's the thought that counts, right?).

    You run several thousand Windows applications? Impressive. ;) For those who only need to use one or two specific applications, for whatever reason, not having to dual boot or not having to own a dedicated computer is rather helpful.

    Very cool device, no doubt. It's on my Christmas wish list... but some slick translucent plastics, like the iBook, would make it even cooler.

    Considering calculators that have a keyboard are now banned... perhaps in a matter of a couple years watches could make it to the 'not allowed here' list on test day. Once hi-res watches come out, will they be banned at concerts and other places where photo equipment is not allowed? Will they be asking to see your watch at the door?

    While video game violence may or may not be linked to real world violence, I can't help but feel it does desensitizes one with related violence in the real world through exposure. One essentially gets used to it.
